Encounter breaks out in Anantnag area

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Hangalgund area of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Thursday noon a joint group of 19 RR,  164 BN of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the Hangalgund area of Anantnag, launched a cordon and search operation. The hiding militants opened fire on the troopers during the cordon, triggering an encounter. 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped in the area. As per locals, intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on at the site of the encounter. Details emerging.

Curfew was relaxed for two hours on Wednesday in Bhaderwah town of Doda while it was completely lifted in the neighbouring Kishtwar district headquarters, officials said. Curfew and strict restrictions under prohibitory orders were imposed in parts of Jammu regions Chenab valley, including Bhaderwah and Kishtwar on June 9 following communal tension in the wake of protests over the remarks of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammad and social media posts by some right wing local activists in her support. IED found in Litter Pulwama, BDS on Job

An Improvised explosive device was found by police in Litter area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Thrusday, officials said. They said the the IED was detected on the road side following which a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the area. When this report was filed Police and BDS have already reached to the spot to assess it. Meanwhile a top police officer also confirmed to GNS about the recovery of an IED.(GNS)

8 CRPF men, civilian injured in Kulgam accident

At least eight paramilitary CRPF personnel and a civilian were injured when two vehicles turned turtle after collision at Nehama area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that CRPF vehicle bearing registration (HR55AE-2071) collided with an auto bearing registeration number (JK18C-8341), resulting in injuries to eight CRPF personnel and an auto driver. He identified the injured CRPF personnel as Surinder Singh, K Satya, K Maha, Rakib-Ul-Islam, Rajinder, C Rama Krishna, Mishram Arvind, A Rajni while civilian was identified as Mohammad Akbar. No fuel shortage anywhere in Kashmir: Div com

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole on Thursday said that there was no shortage of fuel in Kashmir and that people shouldn’t need heed to ‘baseless’ rumours. “There is no need to panic as people can go to retail outlets of Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to buy fuel,” he said, as per news agency KNS. Pole also said that Hindustan Oil Corporation Limited would also have sufficient stock of petrol and diesel by today evening. While claiming that there wouldn't be any problem regarding the availability of fuel, he advised people to purchase fuel as per their need.

The News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) has directed news channels including Aaj Tak, Zee News, News18 to take down certain programs and videos that "vilify" Muslims. In a detailed order, the self regulatory body directed News18 to take down a show on “Thook jihad”. "The hosted by Aman Chopra, amounted to targeting of a particular community", the order said According to Muslim Mirror, the broadcast regulator has also directed Zee News to remove a program on Muslim population. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday conducted fresh raids at multiple locations in Jammu Kashmir in a major crackdown on the cross LoC (Line of Control) trade and militancy funding case. The joint operation was carried out by the NIA and Jammu Kashmir police along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The joint team led by the NIA also conducted searches at other locations in Srinagar as a part of the crackdown on militancy in north Kashmir.
