Over a dozen people have been detained by police during raids across Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly being in touch with militant commanders in Pakistan, officials said on Tuesday. The police said many recent target killings and other militant crimes have taken place at the behest of these commanders using local hybrid militants. “J-K Police has rounded up a number of individuals and initiated legal action against them as they have been found to be in contact with militant commanders based in Pakistan,” the officials said. They said some of the militant commanders these individuals were in contact with, and who are based in Pakistan, include Sajad Gul, Ashiq Nengroo, Arjumand Gulzar and others. A man was allegedly murdered by his son in Ramnagar village of Udhampur district on Tuesday. Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a man namely Gopi Chand son of Dhuni Chand resident of Kaghote Ramnagar was brought to District Hospital Udhampur in injured condition but he was declared as brought dead by doctors. "It was a case of assault after which cognizance of the matter was taken in police station Ramnagar and investigation was started," officials said. They added that son of victim identified as Joginder Kumar turned out to be main suspect of the incident who was intercepted and detained. During extraction of boulders from Rambiara in South Kashmir’s Shopian JCB overturned resulting in the on-spot death of a worker. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the incident occurred at Ganopora Balapora village during the extraction process. They identified the victim as Bilal Ahmed Lone, a resident of Balpora Shopian. Police in this regard registered a case under relevant sections of law. (KNT)

Four militant associates have been arrested in connection with the “IED” blast in Shopian's Sedow area in which one army soldier was killed and two others were injured, Police said. The Jammu Kashmir Police Tuesday took to twitter quoting its Inspector General, Vijay Kumar who said, "Police cracked the recent militant attack case in which militants used “IED in a vehicle” at Sedaw Shopian. “All 4 (militant)/associates have been arrested. Congratulations to team Shopian." A 22 year old MBBS student of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla allegedly committed suicide in a hostel at Fethipora area of the district. Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the incident occurred at a hostel in Baramulla district where the medical student was living on a rent and was pursuing his MBBS degree from GMC Baramulla. "The deceased is said to be a resident of Trikuta Nagar Jammu," sources said adding, police also rushed to the spot of incident to take cognizance of it. Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an ongoing anti-militancy operation in Chaktaras-Kadi area of North kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday morning, officials said. One militant has been killed during the ongoing encounter between militants and Government forces in the Panipora forest of Zaloora area in Sopore of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday, a joint group of Sopore Police, 22RR, 9PARA, 172BN, and 92BN CRPF after receiving inputs about militant presence in the Zaloora area of Sopore launched a cordon and search operation. The hiding militants opened fire on the troopers during the cordon, triggering an encounter. Police on Monday arrested one person for allegedly killing his wife and mother-in-law at Khawas in Budhal area in Rajouri district, officials said. A police official told GNS that following some family argument, the accused identified as Kashmir Singh hit the duo with some pipe (iron rod), causing on the spot death to his wife Prinka Devi and grievous injuries to his mother-in-law Shanti Devi wife of Sukh Dev Singh. The injured was shifted to Community Health Centre where from she was shifted to GMC Rajouri. However she passed away on the way, the official said.
