Over a dozen people have been detained by police during raids across Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly being in touch with militant commanders in Pakistan, officials said on Tuesday. The police said many recent target killings and other militant crimes have taken place at the behest of these commanders using local hybrid militants. “J-K Police has rounded up a number of individuals and initiated legal action against them as they have been found to be in contact with militant commanders based in Pakistan,” the officials said. They said some of the militant commanders these individuals were in contact with, and who are based in Pakistan, include Sajad Gul, Ashiq Nengroo, Arjumand Gulzar and others. A man was allegedly murdered by his son in Ramnagar village of Udhampur district on Tuesday. Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a man namely Gopi Chand son of Dhuni Chand resident of Kaghote Ramnagar was brought to District Hospital Udhampur in injured condition but he was declared as brought dead by doctors. "It was a case of assault after which cognizance of the matter was taken in police station Ramnagar and investigation was started," officials said. During extraction of boulders from Rambiara in South Kashmir’s Shopian JCB overturned resulting in the on-spot death of a worker. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the incident occurred at Ganopora Balapora village during the extraction process. A 22 year old MBBS student of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla allegedly committed suicide in a hostel at Fethipora area of the district. Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the incident occurred at a hostel in Baramulla district where the medical student was living on a rent and was pursuing his MBBS degree from GMC Baramulla.
