Amid the growing demand for shifting Kashmiri Pandit employees to safer places after a series of targeted killings, the Jammu Kashmir administration Friday made it clear the employees would not be moved out of the Valley but transferred to safer locations. The official also said the recent escalation in targeted violence would not lead to any change in plans for holding the annual Amarnath Yatra which is scheduled from June 30-August 11. Newborn found dead in DH Handwara premises

A new born was found dead in the premises of District Hospital Handwara this afternoon. Reports reaching GNS said some people spotted the baby lying in the premises and informed the hospital authorities about it. A medical team soon after reached the spot and took the body into its possession. Riled up over the incident, a large number of people, according to whom the infant’s body had several dog bite marks, assembled near the health facility and demanded a thorough investigation to bring the culprits involved to justice. Civilian, army trooper injured during ongoing encounter in Anantnag

An Army soldier and a civilian has been injured in an ongoing gunfight at Rishipora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday. A top police officer told GNS that during initial exchange if firing one army personnel and a civilian received bullet wounds. Both the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, the officer said. Meanwhile exchange firing was going on when this report was being filed.(GNS)

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Kapran area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday afternoon, a joint group of 19 RR, 164 BN of CRPF  and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the Kapran area launched a cordon and search operation. Filling up the vacuum created by crisis-hit Sri Lanka in the global market, Tea Board is eyeing to ramp up exports. However, the rejection of consignments is causing a decline in outward shipments. All teas sold in the country must conform to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms. 55 civilians were killed in JK since January 2021 by militants, with 35 and 20 among them gunned down in 2021 and till 2nd June of this year respectively.
