Picnic turns into mourning as teenage student slips to death at Shalimar

A 13-year-old boy from Pampore area of Pulwama district slipped to death at Shalimar Srinagar on Saturday when he was on a picnic with his school. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the boy, who was a student of government middle school Dusoo Pampore, slipped into water at Shalimar when he was on picnic with his school. He said that the boy was taken to SKIMS Soura for treatment by his teachers, where he breathed his last. Search operation in Shopian continues, Militants probably escaped: Officials

Militants reportedly managed to give slip to security forces after initial exchange of fire which took place on Saturday evening in Shirmal area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. A top police officer told GNS that after initial exchange of fire between militants and security forces, there was no further contact with the militants. The search operation in the area is still underway, so far no fresh contact has been established. It seems militants might have escaped taking advantage of darkness after initial exchange of fire, the officer added. Yesterday a joint team of Police and army had launched cordon operation in Shermal after receiving specific input about the presence of some militants in the area.(GNS)

An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Shirmal area of south Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint of team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. He said that the exchange of fire is on in the area and two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area—(KNO)

4 injured in accident on Rajouri-Kalakote road

At least four persons were injured in a road accident that took place at Sialsui on Rajouri-Kalakote road on Saturday evening, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an Ecco vehicle collided with a car at Sialsui crossing, resulting in injuries to four persons. He said that all the injured were shifted to Community Health Center Kalakote where from one of them was referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri. He added that from Rajouri hospital, he was referred to GMC Jammu for advanced treatment.
