SC grants protection to Nupur Sharma from arrest in FIRs on Prophet ﷺ issue

The Indian Apex Court on Tuesday granted protection to BJP leader Nupur Sharma from arrest in FIRs in connection to her comments on Prophet Mohammad ﷺ during a live TV show. The Supreme court stated that it will correct its earlier ruling on Sharma's petition seeking protection from arrest and clubbing of nine FIRs against her. A Hindustan Times report quoted the bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala as saying, “We will correct it to a small extent. We never wanted you to go to every court.” The court also issued notices to the Union government and states on her petition for clubbing of the FIRs. The case will be heard next on August 10. 182 civilians, security forces personnel killed in J&K since 2020: MHA

Srinagar, (KNO): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday said 182 civilians and security forces personnel were killed in the militancy-related incidents in 2020 and 2021. In a written reply, a copy of which is in possession of the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the MHA said 437 militancy-related incidents were reported in 2020 and 2021. In these two years, 104 security force personnel and 78 civilians lost their lives, the Ministry said. In 2020, 244 militancy-related incidents took place in which 62 security forces personnel and 37 civilians lost their lives. Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann on Monday after taking in New Delhi reiterated his demand for a separate country for Sikhs. The Shirmoni Akhali Dal President met the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chamber and took oath at the Speaker’s office. Employee attacked after he denies entry to ‘unknown’ youth to GDC Anantnag

Suhail Dar An employee of Government Degree College (GDC) was manhandled by unknown persons at the Gate of the Government Degree College in Anantnag. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday around 12:15 PM,  an altercation started between the gatekeeper at GDC Anantnag and a few bike-borne youths after he disallowed the latter to enter the college premises. Upon noticing the quarrel, an employee of the college identified as Mohammed Shafi Wagay tried to intervene, however, the youth attacked him physically, they alleged. A girl was allegedly forced to remove her innerwear before entering the examination center during the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test in Kollam on Sunday. Parents of the aspirant have filed a police complaint against the authorities, Indian Express reported. A Hindu youth from Karnataka was arrested on the charges of posting objectionable and indecent messages on Facebook using an account with a Muslim name. Identified as Divin Devaiah, a resident of Kedamulluru in Virajpet Taluk in the Kodagu district of Karnataka, the accused through his fake account, posted defamatory and insulting messages on the Hindu goddess Cauvery, which the local Kodava community worships as their deity. The Hindu youth also posted derogatory messages targeting women belonging to the Kodava community posing as a Muslim. Kodagu is a bastion of the BJP and several Hindu organizations are active in this district. Anantnag man leaves home at night; found dead in hospital in Srinagar

Suhail Dar A 40-year-old man from Anantnag was found dead under serious circumstances in Srinagar's Barzulla area on Tuesday. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat,  a family member of the deceased said that Altaf Ahmad Mir of Batengoo Anantnag left his home on Monday around 9 30 PM with his vehicle for some work, during night hours. Early on Tuesday, the family received a call stating that the body of the deceased Altaf was lying in Srinagar's Bone and Joint Hospital, Barzulla in Srinagar, the family members said. A Police official said that the cause of the death is being ascertained. "The body of the deceased is at the hospital for medico-legal formalities. It will be handed over to the family after the formalities are completed," the official said.

Anjuman Shari Shian seals JK Bank in Central Kashmir’s Budgam

After a dispute over rent with bank authorities, Anjuman Shari Shian Tuesday sealed the local branch of Jammu Kashmir Bank in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The local Auqaf Committee run by the socio-religious organization sealed the bank branch during morning hours. A top leader from Anjuman Shari Shia declined to comment on the issue saying it is an internal matter. When contacted, the Circle Head, JK Bank told news agency Kashmir News Trust that they are in correspondence with the Anjuman Shari Shia and hopefully the issue will be resolved and the branch will open. Ganderbal woman, who set herself ablaze 2 days ago, succumbs at SKIMS Soura

A woman who allegedly set herself ablaze two days ago at her home in Ganderbal district, succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS Soura on Tuesday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the woman, hailing from Giraj village, allegedly set ablaze herself ablaze after pouring kerosene oil over her body on Sunday. He said that the woman had suffered grievous burn injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where from she was referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment. The official said that today morning she succumbed her injuries at SKIMS hospital, while the reason behind her taking this extreme step was being ascertained.
