Residents of Rajpora area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara on Wednesday staged a protest against the Wildlife department, alleging that it has failed to kill or capture the man-eater animal that mauled to death a minor girl last week. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), while chanting slogans against the wildlife department, locals said that the department has completely failed to kill or capture the man-eater leopard in the area which could put people mostly minors here at risk. Off-duty cop killed, another injured in Bijbehera road accident

A Jammu and Kashmir police personnel was killed and another injured in a road accident at Bijbehera area of south Kashmir's Anantnag on Thursday morning, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two off-duty cops on way to home were injured after a vehicle hit their motorcycle at Zirpora area of Bijbehera. He said that the duo was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, where one of them succumbed to his injuries. He identified the deceased as Tariq Ahmad Ahanger from Verinag while the injured has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Ahanger from Nowpora Dooru. Admin announces formation of ‘transgender welfare board’ in Jammu Kashmir

Jammu Kashmir administration on Tuesday announced the constitution of a transgender welfare board for the protection of the rights and interests of the minuscule population. For the third consecutive year, no function was held to commemorate the Martyrs’ Day in Kashmir to pay homage to 22 Kashmiri people who were killed by the army of a Dogra ruler on this day in 1931, officials said on Wednesday. July 13 was a public holiday in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and a grand official function was held every year on this day where the chief minister or the governor would be the chief guest. However, the administration dropped the day from the list of gazetted holidays in 2020, after the abrogation of Article 370 and splitting of the erstwhile state into two union territories by the Centre on August 5, 2019.
