The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has dropped down passages that challenged common misconceptions about Muslims, mentioned Jawaharlal Nehru and some Mughal rulers, and dealt with caste and religious prejudices. A report by Telegraph noted that a few paragraphs on Prophet Muhammed were cut from the book’s chapter on new empires and kingdoms. One of the omitted clauses was this one: “Like Christianity, Islam was a religion that laid stress on the equality and unity of all before Allah.” The 'Our Pasts-II book' for Class VII no longer includes certain introductory material on the Mughal emperors Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb. Cylinder fitted with fire crackers destroyed in Pulwama: Officials

A 5 kilogram gas cylinder fitted with fire crackers was defused on Chowdribagh-Litter road in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that on a specific information, Pulwama police along with 55 RR and CRPF 182 bn recovered a gas cylinder fitted with fire crackers weighing around 5 kgs was planted on Chowdribagh-Litter road to harm the security forces. He said that as cylinder fitted was with firecrackers, a bomb squad disposal was called in to destroy it. The official said that it was defused on spot without carousing any damage, while further investigation has been taken up—(KNO)

Militants likely escape, search operation continues in Reban Shopian

Meer Irfan Militants have likely escaped from the spot of the encounter in the Reban area of Zainapora in south Kashmir's Shopian district. Married woman dies under mysterious circumstances in Pulwama; Family alleges murder by in-laws, Police launches probe

Kounsar Bashir/ Meer Irfan A married woman, mother of an eight-month-old daughter died on Monday morning under mysterious circumstances in the Drabgam area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat,  a relative of the deceased woman said that Ruqaiya Jan, aged 24, a daughter of Mohammed Yousuf Sheikh resident of Newa Pulwama was married to a man in Drabgam in Pulwama for over a year. Alleging that the woman repeatedly complained of torture by in-laws, the family member said, "She was repeatedly informing her uncles of the torture by in-laws but they did not pay any attention to her because she had married on her own." Two critically wounded in Dooru road accident

Bhat Imtiyaz Two people sustained serious injuries after a bike bearing registration number JK03C 9566 collided with a Scooty near College Dooru in the Anantnag district on Monday evening. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that the injured have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Malik son of Mohammed Akbar Malik, a resident of Bemdoora Kokernag and Basharat Ahmad Darzi age Son of Ghulam Nabi Darzi resident of Mir Maidan Dooru. Both injured persons were shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment, they said. Police have registered a case in this regard. Details awaited.

Rajouri man arrested for posting photo of Cow ‘Qurbani’ on Social media: Police

A man was arrested in Jammu Kashmir's Rajouri district on Monday for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a community by deliberately circulating a photograph of cow slaughter during Eid ul Adha on social media, police said. The accused, Imran Mir of Hasyote village of Thannamandi area, deliberately circulated the photograph of animal slaughter on social media on Sunday, when people were celebrating Eid-ul-Adha, they said. A case was registered against Mir at Thanamandi police station and investigation initiated, they said. India is projected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country next year, according to a report by the United Nations on Monday which said that the world population is forecast to reach eight billion by mid-November 2022. The World Population Prospects 2022 by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, said that the global population is projected to reach eight billion on November 15, 2022. The global population is growing at its slowest rate since 1950, having fallen under one per cent in 2020.
