Rayees Shah 50 kilometers away from Srinagar, at the foothills of the magnificent Haramukh, Gangbal –an alpine fresh water lake stands still. The lake is surrounded by mountains like a precious jewel. Situated at an elevation of about 3600 meters, this high-altitude lake is about 2.5 km long and a kilometer wide. Water from rain, springs and melting glaciers feeds this lake, which is the origin of Wangath – a tributary of the Sindh River. The river serves as a habitat for different varieties of freshwater fish, especially brown trout.

Srinagar, July 30:(GNS) An unidentified militant was killed while as two army troopers and policeman were also injured in the gunfight at Wanigam Bala area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. Officials sources told GNS that one militant has been killed in the gunfight, while as a Sniffer Dog of army was also killed. Meanwhile two army personnel and a cop also recieved bullet wound in the exchange of fire, their condition is said to be stable, they said. Early morning a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in the Wanigam Bala. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off a gunfight. (GNS)

Russian authorities are drafting a new law that would legalise and regulate Islamic banking in the country, initially to be introduced across four Muslim-majority republics as part of a pilot scheme, including Chechnya, Dagestan, Tatarstan, and Russian Bashkiria. The implementation of non-credit banking institutions would function as Financing Partnership Organisations (FPO), offering Sharia-compliant financial products catering to Muslim customers, according to a report by Russian daily Kommersant. Authorities have ordered suspension of all sorts of activities at Government Higher Secondary School Bijhama Boniyar as eighteen individuals, including two from teaching staff, have tested positive for Covid-19 infection in last few days. A health official told GNS that they had carried out sampling of at least 150 individuals at the institute through Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) and RTPCR. “Out of the 150, a report of nearly 100 individuals was received wherein a total of 18 tests, which included 16 students and 2 teachers came positive for the infection”, the official said. India leads the list of countries seeking blocking tweets by Journalists, News organisations: Report

India made the highest number of legal demands globally to remove content posted by verified journalists and news outlets on Twitter from July-December 2021, the microblogging platform said. In its latest transparency report, Twitter said India was only behind the US in seeking Twitter account information, accounting for 19 per cent of global information requests. It was among the top five countries to issue content-blocking orders to Twitter from July-December 2021 for all kinds of users. Muslim youth attacked with lethal weapons, hacked to death in Karnataka

A gang of miscreants allegedly hacked a Muslim youth to death in Karnataka’s Mangaluru district, hours after the state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s visited the family of slain BJP activist Praveen Kumar Nettaru, police said. The deceased Muslim youth has been identified as Mohammed Fazil, a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal, located on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The incident took place on Thursday evening. The police sources suspect the incident to be a revenge killing allegedly by Hindutva activists, however, an official statement is yet to be made regarding the motive behind the murder.
