While weatherman forecast Isolated very light rains and thundershowers in Kashmir division in next 24 hours, minimum temperatures remained considerably above normal in the Valley on Monday. A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 24.0°C against 23.6°C on the previous night. The temperature, he said, was around 6.3°C above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital. Qazigund recorded a low of 21.6°C against 22.3°C on the previous night. The temperature was 6.1°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said. Motorcyclist, Pillion rider killed in Kupwara road accident

A motorcyclist and his pillion rider was killed in a road mishap in Lolab area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Monday afternoon. A police official told GNS that a motorcycle bearing registration number JK01AB 3829 was hit by an unidentified vehicle at Rednag of Lolab area, resulting in critical injuries to the motorcyclist and his pillion rider. "The duo was taken to a nearby health facility, where both of them were declared as brought dead on arrival", the official said. The official in the meantime identified the deceased duo as Adil Ahmad Shah son of Nisaar Ahmad Shah and Rashid Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, both residents of Baba Hayatpora Lolab. The youths joining the militant ranks in Jammu Kashmir have a "short shelf life" with more than 64 percent of them being killed by security forces within a year, officials said on Sunday. Security forces, aided by a strong on-ground intelligence network, have scaled up anti-militant operations in the first five months of this year, though frequent violence in south Kashmir remained a cause for concern, they said. Citing data of militants neutralized between January 1 and May 31 this year, the officials said 64.1 percent of the new militant recruits were eliminated within a year. Cop shot at, injured by militants in Bijbhera

A policeman was shot at and injured by militants on Sunday in the Bewoora Bijbhera area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A top police officer told GNS, that militants fired upon a cop in Bijbehara. He received a bullet wound and was subsequently shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
