Yatra: Traffic police issue advisory for commuters

Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police on Sunday issued advisory for tourists, yatries and truck movement to inform about travel timings and travel restrictions for NH-44 during Amarnath Yatra-2022. According to advisory issued by the IGP Traffic Police, JK, empty tankers and trucks upto 10 tyres shall ply via Mughal Road towards Jammu. While as the loaded trucks upto 10 tyres including those loaded with fresh perishable items shall preferentially use Mughal Road towards Jammu. The advisory further said the movement via NH-44 the trucks with more than 10 tyres shall ply via National Highway-44. On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that PM Modi and HM Amit Shah have made it clear in the Parliament that elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a gather, LG Sinha said that the delimitation process had been completed, and now revision of electoral rolls is going on, following which elections will definitely be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Bridge Collapses As Loaded Dumper Passes Over in Kokernag

Anantnag, (GNS): A bridge in Wangam Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag collapsed after a loaded dumper was passing over it this afternoon. Reports reaching GNS said that a dumper laden with stone crusher led to the collapse. There was however no loss of life or injury in the incident. Soon after the incident, the authorities declared the bridge unsafe for vehicular traffic. As learned by GNS, the authorities have urged drivers and travelers to opt for alternate link roads passing through Kokernag to the Bypass of Wangam area. (GNS)

Minor Girl Killed, Her Father and Grandfather Injured As Brick Wall Collapses in Shopian

Srinagar, (GNS): A 6-year-old girl was killed, and her father and grandfather sustained injuries after a brick wall collapsed in the Imam Sahib area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district this afternoon. An official told GNS that one Zainab Jabbar, her father Abdul Jabbar, and her grandfather Ghulam Nabi Malla came under a falling brick wall in Manihal Chotipora of Imamsahib. In the incident, the official said the minor girl died instantly and the two other male members with injuries were taken to a nearby health facility for treatment. Confirming the incident, a police official told GNS that cognizance of the incident has been taken. (GNS)

Ismat Siddiqui, the mother of Dr Aafia Siddiqui jailed in a US prison, died on Saturday. A spokesperson for the Aafia Movement Pakistan, Mohammed Ayub, was quoted by Dawn newspaper as saying, that the 80 year old was suffering from kidney and breathing problems. Her funeral prayers were offered at a local mosque in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday said that two LeT militants were apprehended by locals in the Reasi area of the Jammu division along with arms and ammunition. In a series of Tweet, the official handle of ADGP Jammu wrote, " Hats off to the courage of villagers of Tuksan, in Reasi district. Two militants of LeT were apprehended by villagers with weapons; 2AK rifles, 7 Grenades and a Pistol. DGP announces a reward of Rs 2 lakhs for villagers,". Apple growers in south Kashmir are very much concerned about the outbreak of alternaria leaf blotch in orchards causing huge scars on the leaves of trees. According to apple growers, the disease became evident on the leaves and trees spread over vast tracts of land after recent incessant rains. Aafaq Ahmad, a grower from Pulwama said that those trees are shedding leaves and it could hit the yield of fruits. “We have sprayed different types of insecticides but still the disease is spreading rapidly,” he told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Child mortality rate in Jammu and Kashmir is on decline as infant mortality rate has decreased from 49 in 2008 to 17 in 2020. As revealed in the Sample Registration System (SRS) 2020-22 (survey period), Jammu & Kashmir has registered considerable improvement in various health indicators including Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) during the last year. The IMR has decreased from 20 to 17 in a single year.
