Leh Admin announces summer vacation in view of rising Covid cases

The Leh district administration has announced an impromptu summer vacation, for a period of fifteen days for district’s schools, in view of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in the Ladakh district. In an official communique, the Chief Education Officer, Leh, has said that, “In light of the recent spike in the Covid-19 cases, especially amongst the school children, it will be appropriate to prepone the summer vacation in all the Govt./Private schools of Leh district as a measure to break the chain of infection.” The statement further read that, “In this regard, you are hereby directed to declare 15 days of summer vacations in all Govt./Private schools in Leh district from 4th July 2022 (Monday) onwards.”

After Pakistan, China has come out to denounce India's plan to organize next year's G-20 summit in Jammu Kashmir next year. "We have noted this latest development. China's position on the Kashmir issue is consistent and clear-cut. The Kashmir issue, a dispute left from the past, should be peacefully and properly addressed in accordance with the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreement," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told the media. Sand extractor drowns to death in Bijbehara

A sand extractor died after drowning in river Jhelum in Bijbehara of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district this afternoon. Reports reaching GNS that one Khalil Ahmad Chohan, son of Ab Raheem, resident of Tanghard Hiller Arhama Kokernag drowned in the river during extraction of sand. Soon after, the locals and police launched efforts to rescue the drowned person and later on retrieved him in an unconscious state. He was taken to a nearby health facility, where the doctors declared him as brought dead on arrival. Confirming the incident, a police official told GNS that the body would be handed over to family after necessary medico-legal formalities. (GNS)

The Supreme Court Friday remarked that Nupur Sharma's remarks against the Prophet were made either for cheap publicity, a political agenda, or for some nefarious activities. Hearing the plea of Nupur Sharma seeking the transfer of all the FIRs registered against her in many states for alleged remarks on the Prophet, to Delhi for investigation, the SC said that she has "threatened the security of the nation". The court dismissed her plea and asked her to "approach the HC to seek any remedy". The bench said, "In a democracy, grass has to grow and the donkey has the right to eat. But that doesn't mean you can say whatever you want. There has to be some control."

Kashmiri Musk Deer captured in Handwara

A rare musk deer commonly known as 'roose kat' was captured alive while roaming in Bhawan Watsar locality of Rajwar in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday. A wildlife official Muhammad Sadiq told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the deer was roaming in the fields of Bhawan Watsar locality of Rajwar last evening after which the animal was captured alive by the locals. He said the locals handed over the rare animal to wildlife officials. He added it was likely that the deer was frightened and might have come down from forests to an inhabited area situated at the bottom of Rajwar range forests. Later, he said, the musk deer was taken to Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary in Srinagar.(KNT)

Four Amarnath pilgrims, who were on way to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, were injured in a road accident in Banihal area of Ramban district on Friday morning, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a tempo vehicle carrying the pilgrims turned turtle on Srinagar-Jammu national highway near Sherbabi area of Banihal at around 06:00 am, resulting in injuries to four passengers. He said that the injured were taken to SDH Banihal, where their condition is said to be stable. A trooper of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured after he shot himself with his service rifle in Gund area of Ganderbal district on Friday morning, officials said here.
