More corruption in Kashmir than Jammu, reveals Anti-Corruption Bureau data

Kashmir has surpassed Jammu region as far as corruption cases registered by Anti-Corruption Bureau are concerned. In the first seven months of the current year, as per news agency Kashmir News Trust, the anti-graft body has registered 64 cases of corruption from the Kashmir region while 19 such cases have been reported from Jammu Division. Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Police Station in Srinagar (Central Kashmir) which covers Srinagar, Budgam and Gandarbal districts has registered 30 corruption cases which are the highest in the Valley, followed by 22 in Baramullah (North Kashmir) which includes Baramullah, Bandipora and Kupwara. Jammu Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Thursday said that given the enormous resources in the region, there was no need for the youth to pick up arms in 1990. Addressing a gathering at Ranipora, Mattan, Anantnag, the LG, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that J&K has been bestowed with enormous resources and potential. “There was no need for the youth to pick up arms (in 1990). Even today, some people not happy with the region’s peace continue to misguide young boys,” the LG said. Dry weather likely in JK

The weather is likely to remain dry in the next 24 hours in J&K, the Meteorological (MeT) department said on Thursday. The weather was dry in the union territory during the last 24 hours. “Weather is likely to remain mainly dry in J&K during the next 24 hours”, said the MeT department official. Srinagar had 17.8, Pahalgam 13 and Gulmarg 9.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. Drass town in Ladakh region had 10, Leh 12.8 and Kargil 16.6 as the minimum temperature. 1.06 Cr tourists visited Kashmir from Jan to Jul 3 this year: GoI

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday said that an estimated 1.06 crore tourists have visited Jammu Kashmir from January to July 3 this year. Nityanand Rai while replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha said during the current calendar year i.e. from January 2022 till July 3, 2022, the tourist footfall in UT of Jammu and Kashmir increased significantly and estimated to be around 1,06,24,000. Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh on Wednesday said a large number of youth are falling to the drugs and called for collective fight the "menace". The top police officer of J&K toured Srinagar and among others visited Youth Development & Rehabilitation Centre Srinagar and took stock of its functioning. 4690 booked under UAPA from 2018-20, Only 3 per cent convicted

A total of 4,690 people were arrested under the anti-terror law UAPA between 2018 to 2020 but just 149 were convicted under it in the three year period, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said on Wednesday. Rai said 1,321 people were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2020 while 80 people were convicted in that year. In 2019, 1,948 people were arrested under the UAPA and 34 people were convicted in that year and in 2018, 1,421 people were arrested while 35 people were convicted, he said replying to a written question in Rajya Sabha. The minister said the highest number of people arrested under the UAPA between 2018 and 2020 was in Uttar Pradesh -- 1,338, followed by Manipur -- 943 and Jammu Kashmir -- 750. PTI
