Teenager arrested for sodomising 4-year-old boy in Budgam

In a shocking incident, a teenager was arrested in Khag area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Wednesday for sodomising a minor boy, officials said here. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the teenager had sodomised a 4-year-old boy in Khag. He said that soon after receiving information about the same, police swung into action and arrested the teenager. The official added that a case under section 377 IPC and 04 POSCO act has been registered and investigation has also been started in this regard—(KNO)

‘Disappearance’ of local woman sparks protest in Budgam

The mysterious disappearance of a woman sparked a protest in Narbal area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today. According to reports a 40-year old woman identified as Aisha Akhtar wife of Showkat Ahmed Bhat of Narbal had gone to SMHS Hospital Srinagar to inquire the health of a patient on yesterday morning and since then she is untraceable. “We tried to call her but her cell-phone is powered off,” one of the family members told news agency Kashmir News Trust. The family members and locals today blocked the road demanding to trace the ‘missing’ woman. Police rushed to the spot and informed the protesters that a case has already been registered and efforts are on to trace the missing woman. (KNT)

Man sustains critical injuries in bear attack

In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, a bear critically injured a man in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Official sources said that a wild bear who had entered into Panar village of Bandipora mauled a man identified as Nazir Ahmad Bania son of Babu Bania, a resident of the same hamlet. The victim was somehow rescued by locals and shifted to District Hospital Banipora with critical injuries. A couple of days ago a leopard had mauled a little girl to death in North Kashmir’s Uri. SSB jawan falls off building in Srinagar, dies

A Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan died after falling off a building in Pandrethan area of Srinagar, officials said here on Wednesday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that constable Anuj Kumar of 151 Battalion, A/coy SSB fell from the building at Geology and Mining department in Pandrethan. In Assam prisons, 61% of convicts and 49% of undertrials were Muslims, while the community’s share of the state’s population was 34%, Prison statistics of India revealed. There were 161 incidents of police action in Assam, since Sarma assumed office, in which 51 people were killed and 139 others injured. At least 22 out of them were Muslims. According to the data compiled by Prison Statistics of India, In 2021, 30% of all prisoners in Indian jails were Muslim. As of 2011, the Muslim population in the country’s stands at only 14.2 percent.

A man was arrested in Tangmarg's Kunzer area in Baramulla district for allegedly raping a minor girl and burying an infant in the north Kashmir area. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a few local residents spotted a man suspiciously carrying something towards the graveyard. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Jammu Kashmir unit expressed serious concern over the reports of school children forced to sing Hindu hymns. Ghulam Nabi Malik, a senior leader of CPIM, as per a press statement said that a video is making rounds on social media, in which school staff is seen asking students in a class to sing the famous hymn ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram in a government school of Kulgam area. “The rituals and beliefs of a particular caste or faith cannot be imposed on the education system of a secular nation. A girl was injured after she was hit by an unknown load carrier in Zainapora area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday.
