Srinagar, Sep 01 (KNO): Amid non-stop referrals from districts, Srinagar’s oldest tertiary care—Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital is over-burnt as the hospital has treated over one lakh patients in the month of July this year alone. Officials at the hospital told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that despite repeated requests and the policies framed by the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, patients in large numbers from districts all over Kashmir having their own vehicles come to SMHS even for mild ailments let alone major illness. “We can’t deny treatment to any one coming to the hospital,” the official said, adding that the fact remains that the SMHS remains over burned throughout the year and one of the major causes for that is non-stop referrals and unnecessa...

Militants fire upon non-local labourer in Pulwama

Suspected militants on Friday morning opened fire upon a non local labourer in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. Official sources said that a labourer from West Bengal identified as Muneer ul Islam was wounded when militants fired upon him in the Ugergund area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir. They said that Muneer was shifted to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police in a tweet said, "Terrorists fired upon one outside labourer Muneerul Islam S/O Abdul Karim R/O West Bengal at Ugergund Newa in #Pulwama. He has been shifted to district hospital Pulwama where his condition is stated to be stable. Area #cordoned off. Further details shall follow."

Police arrest duo for blackmailing a girl in Srinagar

Police arrest duo from Kashmir capital Srinagar for blackmailing her, official sources said on Thursday. They said that the two accused Danish Majeed Bhat of Noorbagh and Aadil Ahmed Rather, a resident of Shunglipora Srinagar were arrested for blackmailing and extorting money from a girl (name withheld) threatening her of circulating a video on the internet. After receiving the complaint, both the accused were arrested by police station Safakadal while a formal FIR vide number 169/2022 under section 354C, 509 IPC, & 66 E,67,67 A IT Act was registered against them. A fast track court in Jammu has acquitted a police official on charges of rape, observing that the prosecution evidence cannot be said to “definite, positive, consistent and coherent” so far as the case against the accused was concerned. “A clear room for doubt is left out in the prosecution evidence,” Fast Track Court, Jammu, Khalil Choudhary, while acquitting accused, Ajay Kumar Sharma alias Sonu son of Thoru Ram of Kotli Morh, Bari Brahmana Samba. 60-year-old Man Injured in Bear Attack in Handwara

A 60-year-old man was hospitalized in critical conditions after being attacked by a black bear in Lachampora village of Handwara area in Kupwara district this afternoon. Reports reaching GNS said that one Mohammad Yousaf Mir son of Ghulam Mohuiddin Mir, a resident of Lachampora was attacked by a black bear while he was doing some work in his orchard. The individual was shifted to DH Handwara from where he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for preferential treatment.
