Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who ended his more than five-decade-long association with the Congress last month, is likely to launch his party in the next couple of days. "I am inviting the media tomorrow (Monday) before the launch of the party. I am here to meet workers and leaders," Azad told reporters in a brief interaction at his residence here upon his arrival from Delhi. Four persons arrested in Srinagar, cash and gold recovered: Police

Police arrested four accused and recovered stolen cash and gold from them in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, Local news agency Kashmir News Trust reported. The theft incident had occurred during the intervening night of 18 and 19 this month in the two houses belonging to Ashiq Ahmad Mir and Muzafar Ahmad Famda, both residents of Kullan area of Gund Kangan. After registration of case and subsequent investigation by police station Gund, police arrested four accused out of which three hail from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Police identified the accused as Fayaz Ahmad Ganie of Soibug, Budgam, Saleem Malik of Khag Budgam, Sameer Lone of Kokar Bagh Budgam and Imtayaz Ahmad Guroo of Gundroshan, Rabitar at present Parimpora Band Srinagar. 6197 foreign tourists visited Kashmir in last 7 months

Amid a surge in the arrival of domestic tourists, only 6,194 foreign tourists have visited Kashmir Valley in the first seven months of this year. The data provided by the Deputy Director Department of Tourism in response to an application filed under RTI Act reveals that over 15 lakh domestic tourists from January to July have visited Kashmir Valley. The number of foreign tourists as per news agency Kashmir News Trust who visited the Valley from January to July is not so high. The number stands at 6,194. In January 260 foreign tourists visited Kashmir followed by 230 in February, 520 in March, 795 in April 1527 in May 1069 in June, and 1793 in July. (KNT)

A march was staged in Vienna, Austria to express solidarity with Kashmiris and to highlight the "human rights violations" in the region. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that hundreds of Kashmiris living in Vienna along with Pakistanis and several others gathered outside the Vienna International Centre on Saturday and called upon the international community to "wake up" to the pligt of Kashmiris. The event was specifically organised on the eve of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session at the UN headquarters in New York, US, to remind the international community about UN resolutions and pledges to resolve the Kashmir issue. The protestors demanded that the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) must come forward to support Kashmiris.

Two Poonch youth arrested for ‘collecting donations’ in Rajasthan’s border area

Two youths from Jammu Kashmir were arrested by the police in the Jaisalmer area near the Rajasthan border on Friday evening. The duo identified as Jameel Iqbal and Maruf Hussain, both residents of Poonch were arrested for “collecting donations in the prohibited area without permission.” The two have been taken for interrogation by a Joint Investigation Committee. Police said that the police post at Khuiyala got information about the movement of the two youths after which the duo was detained. Last year, in August, the Rajasthan police detained two Poonch in the territorial jurisdiction of Jaisalmer district after they had collected as donations for a madrasa.
