548 human lives lost to road accidents this year so far: Official data

The fatal circle of deaths and injuries through accidents have shown a decrease after eight years in Jammu Kashmir even as 548 lives have been lost due accidents in the current year so far. According to official figures available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), most of the horrific accidents have taken place in the Pir Panjal Range and the Chenab Valley. Figures reveal that 5836 accidents took place in 2015, 5501 in 2016, the 5626 in 2017, 5978 in 2018, 5796 in 2019, while during the period of Covid-19 (2020 and 2021) 10,312 accident have taken place in the Union Territory. “This year till August end, 4125 accidents have taken place in J&K so far,” the data shows. The Government Middle School in Pulwama’s Kakapora is operating out of three rooms causing immense hardships to students as well as teachers. Residents of the area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the building of the school got damaged in the 2014 floods following which an NGO constructed two makeshift rooms. They said that now the two rooms have been bifurcated into four small rooms and two to three classes are being held there while the fourth one has been turned into a kitchen meant for mid-day meals. A 21-year-old female student from north Kashmir's Bandipora district was found hanging in a university hostel in Rajasthan, officials said here on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the girl student from Naidkhai village of Bandipora, who was pursuing Radiology at Mewar University in Rajasthan was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel today morning. He said that the incident took place in the jurisdiction of Gangrar police station in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan. 66 children die in Gambia allegedly after consuming Indian cough syrups

A rash of child deaths in Zambia has been linked to four pediatric cough syrups manufactured in India, as per World Health Organization (WHO). News reports said that the deaths have been due to acute kidney injuries linked to the contaminated cough and cold syrups. The findings were announced by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebryesus following tests on several medicinal syrups that were suspected of causing the death of 66 children. The WHO is conducting an investigation with regulators in India and the drug manufacturer, New Delhi based Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
