SPO dies, Another person injured in road mishap in Kupwara

A Special Police Officer (SPO) succumbed to his injuries after hit by a vehicle at Drugmulla village in North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday evening, official sources said. They told GNS that two persons were injured after hit by an unknown vehicle along Kupwara-Srinagar highway last evening. The injured duo, they said, was taken to a nearby hospital, from where one Mohammad Sarfaraz Kataria (28) son of Mohammad Misri Kataria, resident of Kanipora Kalaroos, with critical injuries was referred to SKIMS Srinagar. The Jammu Kashmir admin has postponed yet another holiday by a day. This time it is the Eid e Milad, which marks the birth anniversary of the last Prophet of Islam. As per a notification, the Jammu Kashmir admin said that the holiday on account of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) shall be observed on 09th October instead of 08th October 2022. “In partial modification of the government order N0. 1337-JK(GAD) of 2021 dated 16-12-2021) read with the government No.1338-jk(GAD) of 2021 dated 16-12-2021, the holiday on account of ‘Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi) instead of 8th October 2022 (Saturday) in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” reads an official order.

Children’s nutritional status in Jammu Kashmir has worsened in the last four years, a survey has revealed, underlining that continuing high levels of undernutrition are “a major problem” in the region. The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare India says that 27 percent of children who are stunted have not changed in the four years between NFHS-4 and NFHS-5. “The percentage of children who are underweight increased from 12 percent to 19 percent, and in the same period, wasting increased slightly from 17 percent to 21 percent,” reveals the survey. A minor girl was among four people injured in a bear attack in Mandi area of Poonch district, officials said here on Friday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the incident took place in Chella Dhangri village of Mandi. He said that these people were busy cutting grass when the animal appeared from bushes and attacked them. “Soon after the incident, the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said. Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir division, Nighat Andrabi on Friday said that people need not panic as the cough syrups, regarding which the World Health Organization had issued an alert, as the same were manufactured for the Gambia only. The School Education Department on Friday said that it has decided to implement the Uniform Academic Calendar thereby the exams of Classes 1-9 will be conducted in March now.
