‘Winter is here’; New curtailment schedule to be issued for Kashmir after November 10

The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has braced up to stay prepared ahead of winter with officials saying that the works like upgradation of transmission lines, branch cutting, and others are going on to ensure a better power scenario in the chilly weather. Ahead of the winter, Chief Engineer, KPDCL, Er Javed Yousuf Dar told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that there has been no new power schedule, but would likely be issued after November 10 onwards. He, however, said that some mandatory works ahead of the winter have been started like the upgradation of transmission lines, branch cuttings and other line work. “These works would be completed before November 15 and the new power schedule will be announced accordingly,” he said—(KNO)

Danishwar Hameed A 33-year-old woman was found hanging at her  home in Bugam area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat on Monday morning a woman (name withheld) who is mother of three, was found hanging at her house. They said that the woman was rushed to the district hospital, Kulgam where she was declared brought dead on arrival. The body will be added over to the legal heirs after the completion of Medico Legal formalities. A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations has been taken up.

Author Salman Rushdie, whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was stabbed by Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old from New Jersey, at a literary event in New York on August 12. Rushdie has lost sight in one eye and one hand following the attack, his agent said on Sunday. The agent, Andrew Wylies, described the extent of the injuries Rushdie suffered in the "brutal" attack in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Reuters reported. "He had three serious wounds in his neck. One hand is incapacitated because the nerves in his arm were cut. And he has about 15 more wounds in his chest and torso," he said. An elderly woman was killed in a road accident that took place in Sangrama area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Sunday even as the driver of the vehicle has been arrested. Authorities in Jammu Kashmir during 2021-22 have utilized ‘only three percent’ of the funds allocated by the central government on account of erstwhile Mid May Meal Scheme (MDM) scheme.
