In view of complaints regarding overcharging on essential commodities, a team of officials of FCS&CA today launched a drive and inspected 72 business establishments in District Srinagar. During the drive, a penal sum of Rs.15,100 was collected as fine from 13 erring shopkeepers for violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Besides, one mutton shop and two tea stalls were also sealed. The drive was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Director Enforcement (Exe. Magistrate 1st class), Mushtaq Ahmad Wani. Even as Heroin abuse is tremendously rising across Kashmir, the southern district of Kulgam has topped the list as the district spends Rs 1 lakh on the use of the substance, official figures accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) revealed Tuesday.
