Many of our readers will be taken aback at the fact that copies of a Kashmiri newspaper were sold for 59 rupees back in 1986. The copies sold in black in massive numbers was due to the massive demand for an article written by Dr. Ghulam Qadir Wani, the first general secretary of Muslim United Front. The article was published by Daily Uqab on 23rd March, 1986 (Pakistan Day). In the decade of 90's back to back political killings hit the soul of Kashmir. A video showing UP policemen beating women with lathis and hurling abuses at them has sparked allegations of police excesses. The police have denied the allegations and said that they had to use “minor force” after the women pelted stones at them and their vehicles. Two arrested in Punjab for assaulting Kashmiri truck driver

Two persons have been arrested for assaulting a truck driver in the Indian state of Punjab. A couple of goons assaulted a Kashmiri truck driver Sahil Iqbal from Kulgam district at toll plaza Mukerian in Hoshiarpur Punjab. Taking strong notice of the incident, J&K Truck Operators Welfare Union appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to intervene and get the accused arrested. The victim who was hit with a rod on his head has received multiple stitches. An FIR vide number 173/2022 IPC has been registered in this regard. Jammu Kashmir admin have announced that the kins of those killed in militancy-related incidents will get a reservation in MBBS and BDS quota. The policy will be applied to the central pool MBBS/BDS Seats. A notice released by the Jammu Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) stated that those students who have lost both their parents or the sole breadwinner of their household in a militant attack will be considered eligible for this quota. Police officer dies of cardiac arrest in north Kashmir

A police officer died of ‘cardiac arrest’ in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust a police sub-inspector posted in Karnah after not feeling well was shifted to sub-district hospital Tangdhar where doctors declared him brought dead. The cause of the death of the police officer was attributed to cardiac arrest by the medicos.
