From Jan 1, airing of ‘national interest’ content for TV may become obligatory in India: Report

From January 1, 2023, it may become obligatory for Indian television channels to air “national interest” content for 30 minutes every day, as per a report by The Indian Express. The report stated that earlier this month, the Union Cabinet had approved the ‘Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Television Channels in India, 2022’, under which it became obligatory for channels to telecast content in national and public interest. Even as the guidelines became effective across India on November 9, officials from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) have said that the channels will be given time to conceptualize and create such content. Molvi Abdul Hamid, his son among four killed in Chenani road accident

A top Islamic scholar and his son are among four persons killed in a tragic road mishap at Chenani area of Udhampur district this morning, officials said. They told GNS that a Maruti Vehicle bearing registration number JK19 1449, on its way from Gool Sangaldan towards Udhampur, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Prem Mandir Chennai, resulting in on spot death of two persons and injuries to several others. The injured persons were evacuated from the spot for treatment, however, two more persons succumbed on way to the hospital, they said. Among the deceased include chief cleric Jamia Masjid Sangaldan Abdul Hamid (32) and his father, a top Islamic scholar, Mohammad Jamal Din (65). More details awaited. (GNS)

In JK, 221 cases pending against officials, bureaucrats, politicians from 2017 to September 2022

At least 785 cases related to corruption and fraud are under investigation in Crime Branch J&K till September 2022. Out of 785 cases, is 785, Crime Branch Kashmir is investigating 393 cases and Crime Branch Jammu is handling 392 cases. The information provided by Crime Branch in response to a query filed by senior Journalist and social activist MM Shuja reveals that 221 cases are pending against officials, bureaucrats, politicians, and police officials from 2017 to September this year. The data as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that 272 cases have been challenged before a court of law. In 2017, Crime Branch disposed off 81 cases followed by 82 cases in 2018, 79 cases in 2019, 48 cases in 2020, 120 in 2021, and 69 cases in the ongoing year. [KNT]

Muslim youth assaulted for traveling in bus with Hindu girl in Karnataka

A Muslim youth was physically assaulted by a group of Hindu right-wing goons after he was seen traveling with a Hindu girl in a bus. The incident occurred near the Nanthur area of Mangaluru in Karnataka on November 24 as photos appearing on social media show the victim being taken away by the police. Another photo shows a blurred image of the girl and in the third photo, the victim can be seen in the middle of the group as he was apparently being thrashed. Giving salaries to Imams amounts to encouraging pan-Islamist tendencies: CIC

Central Information Commissioner (CIC) Uday Mahurkar on Saturday passed an order on an RTI application against salaries being paid to the Imams in mosque by the Delhi government. “Giving salaries to Imams only in mosques amounts to not just betraying Hindu community and members of other non-Muslim minority religions but also encouraging pan-Islamist tendencies,” he observed in the order. “It is necessary to go into the history when it comes to giving special religious benefits to Muslim community by the state. Cop killed, two others injured in Shopian road accident

A policeman died while two others were injured in a road accident in Kanipora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday evening. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the accident took place between a truck and an alto car at Kanipora bridge in Shopian town, in which 3 cops posted at SOG camp Gagran Shopian were injured. Anantnag man dies in truck accident in Udhampur

A 36-year-old man who was injured last Sunday during a road accident in Udhampur succumbed to his injuries today. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, locals said that Rayees Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Takiya Behram Shah in Anantnag's Harnag area was injured when a truck he was driving bearing the number JK18 A 9198 met with a road accident last Sunday in Udhampur district.   Rayees was shifted to the nearby hospital in Udhampur, where the doctors declared his condition to be critical and shifted him to Jammu. "From there, he was brought to Srinagar hospital by his family. He succumbed to his injuries in Srinagar hospital today afternoon," they said. He is survived by a paralysed father, a fifteen-year-old daughter and his wife.

Three districts of Kashmir militancy free; 81 including 52 foreign militants active: Police

Three districts in Kashmir are militancy free and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed, have gone headless after Government forces neutralized their operatives and commanders, Jammu Kashmir Police said. Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir zone) Vijay Kumar, as per the newspaper Daily Excelsior said that three districts of Bandipora, Kupwara, and Ganderbal are militancy free as there are no active militants in these districts.
