1,668 Journalists Killed Worldwide In Past 20 Years: Media Watchdog RSF

What with murders, contract killings, ambushes, war zone deaths and fatal injuries, a staggering total of 1,668 journalists have been killed worldwide in connection with their work in the last two decades (2003-2022), according to RSF's tallies based above all on its annual round-ups. This gives an average of more than 80 journalists killed every year, according to Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Pethmakhama, Budgam residents aghast over unscheduled power cuts

The residents of Pethmakhama , Budgam village in Central Kashmir are up in arms against the Power Development Department over the unscheduled power cuts in their area. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, aghast residents said that despite issuing a curtailment schedule with several power cuts, the Department has failed to provide uninterrupted power supply during the non-curtailment hours. "The Department makes sure that we have no glimpse of light during the curtailment hours, however, during the hours when we are supposed to receive the supply, the power plays hide and seek with us," a local resident said. The residents appealed the higher ups for their intervention.

Police on Saturday said that it registered total of 3100 FIRs including those related to militancy, NDPS in Srinagar in 2022. In series of tweets, The Srinagar police wrote, "In year 2022, 3100 FIRs were registered. 166 FIRs in NDPS with 279 arrests. 71 FIRs in UAPA with 120 arrests. 85 militants/OGWs were detained in PSA. 52 Drug peddlers detained in PSA/PIT. 11 encounters led to elimination of 19 militants (14 Local & 5 Pakistanis) in Srinagar,". In another tweet, they wrote, "70 cases of UAPA were charge-sheeted. 10 houses & 13 movable properties used for militancy were attached/sealed.
