Mufti Abdul Gani Azhari, Kashmir’s veteran Islamic scholar passed away Thursday at the age of one hundred. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Mufti Abdul Gani, who was a resident of Kokernag's Sagam area in south Kashmir's Anantnag district was not keeping well for a long time and he breathed his last on Thursday morning. He was the former head of the Arabic department at the University of Kashmir and was teaching at Dar ul Uloom Deoband post his retirement. He was laid to rest in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Professor Azhari was a Sufi scholar and was taught by India's first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. A Ph.D. from Al Azar University in Egypt, e retired from KU in the year 1997.

The Administration on Thursday revoked restrictions imposed on the District Magistrates in J&K more than 54 months ago for issuing fresh individual Arms Licenses in Jammu and Kashmir. “In supersession of Government Order No. 922 - Home of 2018 dated 12.07.2018, it is hereby ordered that the restriction imposed on the District Magistrates in the UT of J&K, for issuing fresh individual Arms Licenses, is revoked with immediate effect,” reads a Financial Commissioner/ Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department Raj Kumar Goyal (IAS). Shabir Khan Locals on Thursday prevented a woman from committing suicide in the Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that locals spotted the woman attempting to jump into the river Jhelum at Jamia bridge in Sopore, when they rushed and rescued the woman. “After noticing her doubtful movement, locals rushed towards her and foiled her suicide attempt", an official said. The locals later handed over the woman to Jammu Kashmir Police, he said. He added that the woman will be handed over to her family after proper counseling.

A 25-year-old youth from Pulwama died of cardiac arrest on Thursday morning. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that Adil Qayoom Bhat aged 25 a resident of Namblan Narvaw faced a cardiac arrest today morning after which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. Upon his arrival at the hospital, Adil has declared brought dead by the doctors. The incident comes a day after AEE Mohammad Ayoub of the Bon Dailgam area of Anantnag died of cardiac arrest when he was on his way to attend to his duty in Yaripora. People in Srinagar and some other parts in Kashmir woke to a thin layer of snow even as the minimum temperature recorded a rise but hovered below sub-zero level in the valley on Thursday. A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar received 0.5 cm of snowfall, Pahalgam 3.6 cm, Kupwara 1 cm and Gulmarg 3 cm.
