Teenager injured after shot at by 12-Bore rifle in Kupwara

A 14-year-old boy was injured after being hit by a shot from a 12-Bore rifle in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that an unknown person used his 12-Bore rifle ‘illegally leading to the injuries to a young boy identified as Shair Ahmed Khan, a resident of the Payerpora Hyhama area of Kupwara district. The victim was taken to Sub-District Hospital Kupwara where doctors referred him to GMC Baramulla. The condition of the victim is stated to be stable. He has received injuries to his face. Police in this regard has registered an FIR vide number 12/2023 under section 307 IPC 3/27 Arms Act and launched a hunt to track down the accused. [KNT]

Burglars loot four shops in Kulgam main town

Danishwar Hameed  Unknown burglars looted four shops in the main town of Kulgam in south Kashmir. An official told The Kashmiriyat that during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday burglars looted four shops in Kulgam town. He said that thieves decamped with goods worth lakhs of rupees besides cash of over one lakh rupees from the four shops. Meanwhile a team of Jammu Kashmir Police has reached the spot and are investigating the matter. Locals said that the shops that have been looted include provisional store, two medical stores and a Bakery shop. They told The Kashmiriyat that the frequent burglaries have triggered panic among the residents and shopkeepers in the Kulgam town. Pertinently on 24 January burglars loot ATM at Chawalgam Kulgam.
