Suhail Dar Amid snowfall, thousands of people have reached Aishmuqam, Anantnag to attend the funeral of a renowned Muslim saint, Faqeer Ghulam Qadir, who passed away on Thursday. Faqeer Ghulam Qadir, passed away on Wednesday night at Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan where the Muslim cleric was on a visit for the past week. As soon as the news of his demise spread, thousands of Muslims rushed to Aishmuqam where the cleric was based for several decades and served at the Sufi Khanqah of revered Sufi saint, Hazrat Sakhi Zain u Din Wali. Gunshots fired by troopers on observing suspicious movement in Kulgam: Police

Police on friday said that security forces fired some rounds of bullets in air after observing suspicious movement in DH Pora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. In a brief handout to GNS, the police said that suspicious movement was reported during late afternoon in the main town DH Pora Kulgam. CASO was launched to search the area and some speculative shots were also fired. Police Kulgam, 9RR and CRPF 18 Bn are jointly conducting search, reads the statement.(GNS)

The Supreme court of India Friday denied ordering a stay over Jammu Kashmir admin's ongoing eviction drive in the region. Bar and Bench reported that the Supreme Court hearing an urgent application seeking a stay on a circular issued by the Jammu Kashmir admin that directed removal of all encroachment on land owned by state, including Roshni land and Kachharie land refused to pass the order. "We are not passing any order. You instruct them orally to not demolish any houses. But we will not grant a general stay at all so that others do not get benefits," Justice Shah said. The Jammu Kashmir admin has issued an order to Deputy commissioners in all districts of Jammu Kashmir ordering them to remove all the "encroachments" from the state land in the region by January 31.

A soldier ended his life inside the Army Camp after shooting his head with his service rife in north Kashmir’s Handwara town. Official sources said that some gunshots were heard inside 21 RR Bagatora Handwara Camp. When soldiers rushed to the spot to ascertain the facts, they found a sentry in a pool of blood with a head injury. He was taken to Sub District Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The victim has been identified as Lance Naik Shiv Kumar. Police have initiated proceedings under section 174 Cr. PC.

Electrical employees in Jammu  Kashmir have decided to resume their postponed strike from next month to attract the attention of the administration towards their ‘legitimate’ demands. “The strike will start on February 2 next month. Director Education, Tasaduq Hussain today said that books prescribed by the Board of School Education (BOSE) will be used for the learning process in private schools from now onwards. He said BOSE textbooks will be used in all private schools as soon as the March session starts. The Director was addressing a press conference here in Kashmir capital Srinagar. He said the sale of tobacco products has been banned within a 500-meter radius of all educational institutions.
