Bharatiya Janta Party constituency incharge of Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday resigned from the basic membership of the party. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Farooq Ahmed Rather, who was affiliated with BJP said he resigned as he failed to address the grievances and fulfill the demands of the people of his constituency who have always supported him. He said that the party failed to address the grievances and his moral conscience doesn't allow him to continue with the membership of the party. Officials in the Srinagar district of central Kashmir have listed a total of 6926 patches of land registered under separate Kharsa numbers with the revenue Department of Jammu Kashmir as state land - out of them 6426 patches of state land have been encroached, while 503 patches of land are lying vacant. Despite paying the lease amount and rent since August last year, district administration Pulwama has not given possession of land to the Unit Holders who want to set up their units at Industrial Growth Centre Lassipora. Danishwar Hameed A large number of residents including women assembled near Rahpora khudwani to stage protest against the Jal Shakti Department. Amid slogans, the protestors also blocked vehicular movement on the road. While speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the protestors said that the Jal Shakti Department is playing with their lives by not supplying them with drinking water. “We are facing an acute water crisis and no one from the department is concerned about that," they added. Renowned Kashmiri scholar Mufti Abdul Gani Azhari passes away

Mufti Abdul Gani Azhari, Kashmir’s veteran Islamic scholar passed away Thursday at the age of one hundred. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Mufti Abdul Gani, who was a resident of Kokernag's Sagam area in south Kashmir's Anantnag district was not keeping well for a long time and he breathed his last on Thursday morning. He was the former head of the Arabic department at the University of Kashmir and was teaching at Dar ul Uloom Deoband post his retirement. He was laid to rest in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Professor Azhari was a Sufi scholar and was taught by India's first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. A Ph.D. from Al Azar University in Egypt, e retired from KU in the year 1997.
