Locals foil woman’s suicide attempt in Sopore

Shabir Khan Locals on Thursday prevented a woman from committing suicide in the Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that locals spotted the woman attempting to jump into the river Jhelum at Jamia bridge in Sopore, when they rushed and rescued the woman. “After noticing her doubtful movement, locals rushed towards her and foiled her suicide attempt", an official said. The locals later handed over the woman to Jammu Kashmir Police, he said. He added that the woman will be handed over to her family after proper counseling.

A 25-year-old youth from Pulwama died of cardiac arrest on Thursday morning. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that Adil Qayoom Bhat aged 25 a resident of Namblan Narvaw faced a cardiac arrest today morning after which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. Upon his arrival at the hospital, Adil has declared brought dead by the doctors. An earthquake jolted Jammu Kashmir on Thursday afternoon with its epicenter in Chenab valley. According to NCS, an earthquake of low intensity with its epicenter in Doda hit Jammu Kashmir at 12: 04 PM, however, there was no immediate report of any damage. The Depth of the recent quakes has been alarming. Today's earthquake's depth was 10 KMs and it magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale.

On Wednesday the Editors Guild of India in a statement said that they are deeply concerned by the draft amendment made to the Information Technology Rules, 2021, by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY) that gives authority to the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to determine the veracity of news reports, and anything termed 'fake' will have to be taken down by online intermediaries, including social media platforms. The amendment was uploaded on the Ministry's website on January 17, 2023. At the outset, the determination of fake news cannot be in the sole hands of the government and will result in the censorship of the press.
