The flight operations at Srinagar International Airport resumed a day after remaining suspended due to heavy snowfall in the Kashmir Valley, while Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained closed for traffic on second consecutive day. In the ongoing state land eviction drives launched across Kashmir and Jammu, the official figures from Bandipora have revealed that less than 2 percent of the total land retrieved was encroached on by the "influential." In a press release, The District Administration Bandipora said that it has retrieved around 33000 Kanals of encroached land through intensified anti-encroachment drives. "The drives have also evicted around 500 Kanals of high-value land from various influential persons of the district, especially in Tehsil Bandipora and Sumbal," the district admin said. Mainly dry and foggy weather was expected till February 4 and light rain and snowfall thereafter for one week in Jammu and Kashmir, meteorological department (MeT) said on Tuesday. However, the weather department has ruled out the possibility of any major snowfall in the next ten days. “From February 1 to 4, mainly dry weather is expected but fog is likely to develop in Jammu Kashmir (60% chance),” said a MeT official, as reported by GNS. Shabir Khan The falling of a Chinar tree led to massive damage to two residential houses in the Mohura area of Uri in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday morning, residential houses belonging to Ghulam Hassan Khan and Jahangeer Ahmed Khan were damaged when a branch of a chinar fell on the two houses in the north Kashmir area. Shah Basit Seven cattle were charred to death and one residential house was damaged in separate fire mishaps in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday fire broke out at a cow shed in Shiekh Pora in Mawar Qalamabadin belonging to a local resident Abdul Ahad Malla.
