Earth's average surface temperature in 2022 tied with 2015 as the fifth warmest year on record, according to an analysis by US space agency NASA, which termed the situation as "alarming". The global temperatures in 2022 were 1.6-degree Fahrenheit (0.89-degree Celsius) above the average for NASA's baseline period (1951-1980), scientists from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York reported. "This warming trend is alarming. Our warming climate is already making a mark: Forest fires are intensifying; hurricanes are getting stronger; droughts are wreaking havoc and sea levels are rising," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. 12th class girl dies of cardiac arrest in Shopian

Meer Irfan A 12th class girl died of a cardiac arrest in south Kashmir's Shopian district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a girl aged 18 identified as Mehak Jan, daughter of Abdul Majeed Dar, a resident of Sugan area in Shopian fell unconscious at her house on Saturday evening. Mehak was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead upon arrival. Her death is being mourned by the people of the entire locality and people have thronged in huge numbers to offer the funeral of the deceased teenage girl, a local told The Kashmiriyat.

A policeman has died of a cardiac arrest at a training centre in North Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said here on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Fayaz Ahmed of Khan Sahib area of Budgam died of cardiac arrest at Sheeri training centre. An avalanche hit a village in the Gurez sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, and officials issued an avalanche warning for 12 more districts in the region. There was no loss of life or damage to property, however, following the avalanche in Jhurniya village in Gurez in Bandipora district, officials said. Two Kashmiri Pandit men on Thursday donated blood for a Kashmiri Muslim girl admitted at a hospital in New Delhi. Confirming the development to The Kashmiriyat, a Kashmiri Pandit settled in New Delhi said that the daughter of Showkat Ahmed Teeli of Sopore area in north Kashmir was in requirement of two pints of blood on Wednesday. Meer Irfan The residents of Sanimarg in Gatipora area of Keller block in south Kashmir's Shopian district have been suffering due to the non-availability of drinking water in the area. Locals said that they have to melt snow and use the same water for drinking and for other purposes. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the residents said that the water pipeline to the area has been damaged which has deprived the local residents of potable water. The Government of Assam has continued its unabated campaign of bulldozers in the eastern state against what it calls "encroachers." According to an official press release the administration in Lakhimpur Assam on Tuesday began a massive eviction drive to clear around 500 hectares of "forest land". The Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police P B.M. Rajkhowa said that around 450 hectares of land would be freed from the encroachers. B.M. Srinagar- Jammu highway reopens for traffic

The Jammu-Srinagar highway has been reopened for traffic after remaining shut for over 24 hours due to mudslides at Panthal and other areas. An official said that hundreds of vehicles, mostly trucks, were stranded on the highway after it was closed on Friday morning due to fresh snowfall in the Kashmir valley. "Due to the constant efforts of the officials and the teams that were deputed to clear off the debris of the mudslides, the highway was restored around 1110 AM," an official told The Kashmiriyat. He said that as of now only light motor vehicles will be allowed to ply from both the sides on the highway. Pertinently, Kashmir-bound trucks carrying essential supplies and other vehicles pass through the Jammu- Srinagar highway.
