Kashmir University and Cluster University Srinagar on Monday postponed all examinations scheduled for tomorrow in view of inclement weather conditions. “In view of continuous snowfall reported across Kashmir, all examinations of the University of Kashmir, scheduled to be held on Tuesday (January 31, 2023) are postponed,” Controller Examinations KU Dr Majid Zaman said in a statement to GNS, adding, “Fresh dates for the deferred Examinations will be notified separately later.” Meanwhile all the examinations of Cluster University Srinagar scheduled tomorrow have been postponed due to inclement weather, the varsity said in a notice. “Fresh dates for postponed papers shall be notified separately,” Controller of Examinations Cluster University Srinagar added. Kashmir Valley including Srinagar has been covered in a blanket of snow on Monday and the weatherman has forecast more in the next 12 hours and a gradual decrease from tonight. A meteorological department official told news agency GNS that widespread moderate to heavy snowfall has been reported in Kashmir and hilly areas of Jammu. Also, moderate rain with thunderstorms were reported in most places of Jammu. “Snowfall and rain is very likely to continue for the next 12 hours. Expect a gradual decrease in precipitation from later tonight,” he said. On January 31, he said, cloudy weather with light snow and rain was expected in isolated to scattered places. Army trooper dies while on duty in North Kashmir’s Kupwara

An army trooper died at his camp in North Kashmir’s Kupwara after falling unconscious during his duty. Official sources said that Subedar Jitendra Kumar from 17 Gharwal in Chowkibal Kupwara fell unconscious at his Unit and was taken to the military hospital Drugmulla, where doctors declared him dead. The victim was a native of Uttarakhand. Police Post Drugmulla have started proceedings under section 174 Cr.PC in this regard. [KNT]

A powerful suicide blast inside a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines area on Monday martyred two policemen while more than 90 others were injured, security and health officials told Geo News. According to security officials, the suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, injuring dozens of faithful offering Zohr prayers. The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital of Peshawar. A spokesperson of the hospital said that two policemen have been martyred in the blast and 90 injured have been brought to the facility. More than 10 injured were in critical condition, doctors said.
