In December, J-K collected 13 per cent GST more than the national average: Admin

Jammu Kashmir has registered a substantial growth in collection of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the month of December, 2022. Jammu Kashmir has registered an increase of 24 per cent in its GST collection for the month of December, 2022 which is 13 per cent more than the national average, as a statement issued by the Finance Ministry. Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Kashmir, Shakeel Maqbool, while speaking in this backdrop, said that this spurt in GST collection has been recorded due to better tax compliance and reporting coupled with economic recovery. He added that this increase is one of the highest ever monthly growth rates in J&K since the inception of GST.

Kashmiri photojournalist, Mannan Dar who was detained at the Tihar jail for over a year has been granted bail by the court. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat,  a family member of Mannan Dar confirmed that NIA court of Patiala house Delhi granted bail to the 24-year-old journalist on Monday afternoon. "We are expecting his release tomorrow. We have not received any formal orders of the bail as of yet, however, the counsel of Mannan is hopeful that he will be released as soon as the papers are ready," the family member said. Major internal equipment of a 100 KV electric transformer, installed for a filtration plant, was found missing on Sunday morning in Budbugh Ashpora in Handwara. Reports reaching GNS said that few locals saw the transformer lying on the ground and without the internal apparatus, following which they informed officials of PHE and PDD. Three drug peddlers arrested in Shopian, Heroin recovered

Meer Irfan The Jammu Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in the Shopian district of south Kashmir and recovered three grams of contraband substance from their possession. A Police official confirming the development to The Kashmiriyat said that three residents of south Kashmir were arrested by Police during a Nakka checking in the south Kashmir district. The official identified the trio as Amir Ahmed Chopan, a resident of Rajpora Pulwama, Amjad Ali Naikoo, a resident of Ratnipora Shopian, and Zubair Ahmed Sofi. "Heroin weighing to about 13 grams was recovered from the possession of the trio," he said. The official added that an FIR was registered and an investigation taken up in this case under the relevant section of law.

At least 2,900 incidences of rioting or violence between religious communities were filed in India between 2017 and 2021, according to the Indian government’s data from the National Crime Records Bureau. The data was cited by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai in a reply in Rajya Sabha. In 2021, 378 incidences of communal or religious rioting were reported, compared to 857 in 2020, 438 in 2019, 512 in 2018, and 723 in 2017, according to the data. Rai said that “a decrease was recorded in such cases in 2021 compared to the previous years.” According to NCRB data, 100 of the 378 instances in 2021 were registered in Jharkhand, 77 in Maharashtra, and 22 in Rajasthan.
