The minimum temperature plummeted across Kashmir Valley with Gulmarg and Pahalgam recording season’s coldest night at minus 10.0°C and 9.6°C respectively on Monday. A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.4°C against last night’s 0.5°C. The temperature was 3.3°C below normal for the summer capital, the official said. Srinagar has so far seen the coldest temperature this season on December 25 when mercury plummeted to minus 5.8°C. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 5.8°C against 0.3°C on the previous night. A child has died while six others including two women and four children have suffered injuries in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on Monday in Dangri area of Rajouri district, reports said here. Reports reaching the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that an IED blast took place in the house of one of the slain civilians in a firing incident in Rajouri last evening when people had gathered for condolences. “During the explosion, a child about 7 years of age died on the spot while six others have been injured in the incident," officials said. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a family member of the missing youth said that Aijaz Ahmed Naik son of Mohammed Maqbool Naik, who is a resident of Czimmer in Kulgam has been missing since 30 December. "The last time he called home was from Ludhiana. He said that he needed money after which his phone got switched off," the family member said. Officials said that a lady, who was injured after being hit by an unknown vehicle in Sopore outskirts yesterday, succumbed to her injuries at Srinagar hospital on Sunday morning. An official told the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a lady in her 40's identified as Rafeeqa, wife of Manzoor Ahmed of Alsafa Colony in Sopore was hit by an unknown vehicle on Saturday, following which she was subsequently taken to Sopore hospital. At least six persons were injured in a firing incident in Dangri village of Rajouri district on Sunday evening, officials said here. A civilian was injured after unknown persons suspected to be militants hurled a grenade on CRPF Bunker near Hawal Chowk in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Sunday evening. A senior police officer told GNS that militants lobbed grenade towards CRPF Bunker of 28 BN near Hawal Chowk. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on roadside. Hours after snatching rifle from a paramilitary CRPF personnel in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police on Sunday said that youth was brought back with the assistance of his family. “With assistance of family, Police brought back Irfan Bashir Ganie alias soba Ganie Aged about 25yrs Son of Bashir Ahmad of Below Pulwama along with AK-47 rifle which he snatched from CRPF personnel today morning,” ADGP Kashmir said in a tweet as per GNS, adding, “Investigation going on. We appreciate the role of family.” Earlier in the day rifle was snatched from the paramilitary CRPF soldier at 11:45 am at Rajpora town in the district, officials said.
