Authorities announce traffic diversions in Srinagar ahead of Republic Day

The authorities on Wednesday issued advisory regarding movement of traffic in Srinagar on January 26. According to the advisory, various diversions have been ordered in view of the main R-Day function being held at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium Sonwar here. It said that no traffic shall be allowed from Panthachowk towards Dalgate and all motorists shall use highway-Nowgam-Natipora-Nowgam-Sanatnagar-Hyderpora Bypass to reach to their destinations. “No traffic shall be allowed from Dalgate towards Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium Sonwar. Drivers in Sonmarg Wednesday appealed to district administration Ganderbal to provide them space for a Sumo Stand in the Gagangeer area during winter. Police and paramilitary forces in large numbers have reached the Jamia Millia campus in Delhi where the Students Federation of India was scheduled to screen the 'India- The Modi Question' documentary. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a student of Jamia Millia Islami said that the movie will be screened at MCRC Lawns of Jamia at 6 PM. 26-year-old cricketer dies after falling from a two storey building at Handwara

Shabir Khan A budding Cricket allrounder from north Kashmir's  Watergam Rafiabad town succumbed to the injuries on Wednesday morning. Family members confirming his death to The Kashmiriyat said that Tahir Lone (26), had been injured after he fell down from a two-story house in the north Kashmir town on Saturday. Popularly known as Lala in Handwara, Tahir was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was referred to Srinagar for advanced treatment. The 26-year-old breathed his last at SKIMS hospital in Srinagar. Hundreds of people amid the inclement weather have rushed to his residence to pay solidarity to the family and participate in the last rites of the youth.

An ailing Central Reserve Police Force trooper died of a cardiac arrest in Vessu area of Qazigund in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday morning. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the trooper of 48/F Coy deployed at KP Colony Vessu was ill for the last few days and today morning he suffered a cardiac arrest. He said he was rushed to GMC hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. “The apparent cause of death seems due to the cardiac arrest,” he said. Due to fresh snowfall in Kashmir and parts of Jammu, all important highways have been closed for traffic. However, train service is operational while at Srinagar Airport, and scheduled flights have been delayed. Director Srinagar Airport informed that today’s morning scheduled flights have been delayed, and flight operation shall resume with improvement in visibility accordingly. The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi late on Tuesday night witnessed stone pelting and clashes when right wing groups threw stones at a group of students watching the BBC documentary on Narendra Modi.
