According to officials in Jammu Kashmir over 2.15 Lakh kanal of state, land has been retrieved from "encroachers" in Jammu Kashmir adding that the eviction drives will continue to reclaim the remaining 2.74 lakh kanal of "encroached" land across the valley. Till Sunday, encroachments have been removed from a total of 2,16,683 Kanal of "state land" in 10 districts of the Kashmir valley. In the Srinagar district, the administration, as per official figures, has recovered a total of 2415 Kanal of state land. SGPC condemns attacks on Sikhs in Pakistan

The alleged attacks on two Sikh brothers near the holy site of Nankana Sahib in Punjab province of Pakistan were taken up by members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday, with Advocate and SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami condemning the incident. "Even before this, there have been many attacks on members of the Sikh community in Pakistan. Neither is an action taken by the accused or are related issues taken seriously," Dhami said. He has also sought intervention from the Centre on the matter. "To ensure the safety of Sikhs, the Modi government should hold talks with the Pakistan government at a diplomatic level," he added.

Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday has sought earthquake safety audit of all the hospitals in the valley. “Structural audit of hospitals should be done immediately to ensure they are resilient to quakes,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan. ‘Recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria is a wakeup call for Kashmir which is vulnerable to similarly powerful seismic events,’’ he said. Dr Hassan said hospitals play an important role in saving lives during an earthquake. Congress must pass law to allow religious violence victims to sue Indians in US, says Christian group

The US failure to call out religious persecution in India will hurt America’s business and security interests in South Asia, a leading Indian American Christian group said this week. 5 of UP family die of suffocation in Kupwara including an infant

Five family members including three children of a family from Uttar Pardesh were found dead on Wednesday due to suffocation in Kralpora area of Kupwara district. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that five members of the family identified as Majid Ahmad son of Ahmad Hussain, his wife Sohana Khatoon, their children Faizan Ansari, Abu Zar and a few-days-old infant were found dead at their rented accommodation early this morning. The minimum temperature saw a fall at most places in Kashmir Valley with Srinagar and Qazigund too recording below sub-zero level on Wednesday.
