Minor boy injured in mine blast on LoC in Poonch

A minor boy was injured after inadvertently stepping over a landmine while grazing his cattle near the LoC in Poonch district on Monday. “The victim has been identified as Mohammad Shoaib (15), son of Jamal Din, of Qasba village of Poonch district," a police official told The Kashmir Scroll. He was injured when he inadvertently stepped over the strayed landmine while grazing his goat near the LoC and it exploded suddenly. “Shoaib suffered injuries was shifted to District Hospital (DH), Poonch," they added. A senior police official confirmed the incident and said that the injured boy was later shifted to District Hospital, after he was given first aid by Army. (KS)

Rajouri: Villagers to go on hunger strike if attackers not neutralised

Residents of Dhangri in Jammu Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Sunday expressed concern over the “failure” of security agencies in tracing the militants behind the twin attacks in the village and demanded justice for the victims. The villagers threatened to go on a hunger strike if the security agencies are unable to eliminate the militants within the next 15 days. Seven people were killed and 14 injured as militants attacked Dhangri on 1 January. A Naib Tehsildar and two Junior Engineers (JEs) had a narrow escape after their vehicle came under a snow avalanche in Gurez Tehsil of Bandipora district on Monday evening, officials said. ‘State-land’ evictions: Five arrested, Four detained in connection with stone pelting in Jammu

Five people were arrested and four detained in connection with stone pelting during an anti-encroachment drive here last week, police said on Monday. Three policemen were injured in the stone pelting that took place on Saturday during the drive to demolish a vehicle showroom built on encroached land in Malik Market in the Narwal bypass area, they said. The owner of the showroom, Sajad Ahmed Beigh, is among those arrested, according to police. “We have arrested five people and detained four others in connection with stone pelting that took place during an anti-encroachment drive here,” a senior police officer said.
