The district administration of Srinagar launched a massive anti-encroachment campaign across the district on Saturday. As a result, 409 kanal of State land worth more than Rs 240.58 crore were reclaimed from "powerful land grabbers." Massive explosion near Quetta police lines in Pakistan, casualties feared

At least five people were injured in an explosion near the Quetta Police Lines area on Sunday, rescue officials said. Edhi worker Zeeshan Ahmed, who is leading the rescue operation on the site, told Dawn.com that the injured persons have been moved to the Civil Hospital, Quetta. He said police and emergency teams have arrived at the site and the area has been cordoned off. Police haven’t issued any statement and the nature of the blast is not clear at the moment. The explosion comes days after a ghastly suicide blast in the Peshawar Police Lines area took nearly 80 lives, mostly policemen.

Pakistan bans Wikipedia over ‘blasphemous’ content

Pakistan has banned the popular online encyclopedia Wikipedia in the country for not “blocking/removing sacrilegious content” within the 48-hour deadline given to the website, a spokesperson confirmed on Saturday. Wikipedia is a free, crowdsourced, editable online encyclopedia often used as a starting point by millions across the world for basic information. The Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) had on Wednesday degraded Wikipedia services countrywide for not complying with the directives for the removal of controversial content from the website, Newspaper Dawn reported. Former President Pervez Musharraf has passed away after prolonged illness, Pakistani media reported on Sunday. The 79-year-old former president was being treated for an illness at an American Hospital in Dubai. Born August 11, 1943, New Delhi, India, Parvez Musharraf who took power in a coup in 1999 had also served as president of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008. He joined the Pakistani army in 1964 and fought in Pakistan’s 1965 and 1971 wars with India. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed him head of the armed forces in October 1998. Weather in Jammu Kashmir remained dry mostly during the last 24 hours, IANS reported. The MeT office said on Sunday that Jammu will have dry weather and Kashmir valley will have rain/snow at isolated places during the next 24 hours. "Weather would be dry in Jammu division with rain/snow at isolated places in the Valley during next 24 hours", an official of the MeT department said. DAK calls for population-based cancer screening in Kashmir

On world cancer day, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday called for population-based cancer screening in Kashmir valley. “With cancer reaching epidemic proportions in the valley, screening people for cancer is the need of the hour,” said DAK President Dr. Nisar ul Hassan. Dr. Hassan said cancer screening detects disease early and reduces the risk of dying from the disease.
