Suhail Dar Officials on Friday sealed 39 shops, which were constructed by Local Auqaf, in south Kashmir's Tehsil Bijbehara. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that a team led by revenue officials sealed thirty-nine shops in the Kanelwan area of Bijbehara. The shops were constructed by the local Auqaf committee of Kanelwan and the rent of the shops was used for the Mosque along with other relief works for the local population. Locals said that the rent money was being used for the welfare of the general public. The administration claimed that they were constructed on state land. Court quashes PSA detention of Shopian youth jailed in UP

The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed the detention of a Shopian student lodged in Agra jail under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The detainee, Saliq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Gagren Shopian, who is a student, is presently detained in Central Jail Agra in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested by police in Shopian last year on charges of stone-pelting. Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak argued that the detaining authority has not attributed any specific allegation against the detainee. He contended that the detainee was arrested in old cases and on charges of ‘fake’ stone-pelting. The court of Justice Sanjay Dhar accordingly quashed his detention and ordered his release from the Agra Jail. [KNT]
