The Quran burning incident in Sweden sparked a protest in Kashmir capital Srinagar after Friday prayers. Protesters led by Syed Abid Rizvi, a cleric from an Abi Guzar Masjid assembled in Press Enclave and raised slogans against Danish anti-Islam lunatic Rasmus Paludan who had set a copy of holy Quran on fire outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm. One of the protesters said: “We condemn Sweden’s state-supported Islamophobia. Our Prophet (PBUH) and the holy Quran are our honour and no Muslim can tolerate such fanaticism,” he said. Another protester said that the act of burning the holy Quran should not be considered an act protected by the right of free expression. Houses are sinking, mosques are developing major cracks in the Nayi Basti area of Doda's Tathri which has spread panic among local residents, who have made a fervent appeal to the Government of India to stop the constant digging of the mountains. The local residents have been migrating from the area leaving their decades-old houses behind after at least seven houses (when this report was filed) were damaged due to the cracks that developed in these houses. The amalgam of different trade bodies, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) Friday appealed to the government to take stakeholders into confidence before resorting to ‘demolition or sealing’ any shop. Chairman KTMF, Muhammad Yaseen Khan addressed a press conference a day after unsealing of 25 shops at Aftab Market Srinagar. The weather department here on Friday said that there was a possibility of light snowfall at scattered places of Kashmir in the next 24 hours. A meteorological department official here told GNS that mainly dry weather was expected thereafter for two weeks. Meanwhile, he said, the mercury witnessed a slight drop at most places as sub-zero temperature was also recorded in Srinagar that saw a low of minus 0.6 against 0.4°C on the previous night.
