Jammu Kashmir has been allocated Rs 35,581 crore in the Union budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The budget documents available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reveal that Jammu Kashmir has been allocated Rs 35,581 crore in the Union budget for 2023-24. According to the documents, there has been a massive hike in revised estimates for the current financial year. The 270-km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for vehicular traffic following a landslide on Wednesday, officials said here. A traffic offical told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that a major landslide occurred on National Highway-44 in Banihal town of Jammu Kashmir's Ramban district. The portion of the highway in Banihal's Rampadi area has been blocked due to the landslide, he said. A video of the blocked road surfaced online. Authorities on Wednesday sealed more than 2 shops at Aftab market in Srinagar, stating that the land was illegally occupied. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 2.7 Kanals of land were illegally occupied, where more than 20 shops were built. Two foreign tourists died while 21 others were rescued after a massive snow avalanche hit Afarwat peak at famous ski-resort in Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday. Sub-divisional officer Tangmarg, Javid Ahmad told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that an avalanche struck near Afarwat Peak this afternoon. He said following the incident a rescue operation was launched, during which two bodies of a foreign tourists were recovered.
