Man shot at by suspected militants in Kulgam

One person has been shot at by unknown gunmen in the Hassanpora area of Arwani in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that suspected militants on Friday evening fired upon a man identified as Asif Ali Ganie son of Ali Mohammed Ganie in the Hassanpora area, causing injuries to him. Asif Ali Ganie, a resident of Hassanpoa Tavela has been shifted to the Sub District hospital Bijbehara, they said. Meanwhile, the Government forces have reached the spot and laid a cordon around the area to nab the attackers. Pertinently, his father, 53, named Ali Mohammed Ganie was  shot dead by militants outside his home in south Kashmir’s Hassanpora area on January 29, 2022. Details emerging

Properties of three persons allegedly involved in militant activities attached

Properties of three persons who were allegedly involved in the militant activities have been attached by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Jammu and Kashmir Police in Gool area of Ramban district. According to a notice, the properties include a single-storey house of Abdul Majid Lone at Sesal, a house of Mohammed Farooq, and a chemist shop of Shahdin Padyar. The properties have been attached under the Explosive Substance Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967 and PDPP Act. “The owners of these persons have been restrained to transfer, lease out, dispose off, change its nature or deal with the said property in any manner without the permission of police or the designated authority,“ reads a notice. A massive fire broke out in the forest area of Rampura, Rajpora in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday while as the teams have been deputed to douse off the flames. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a fire broke out in Wastung compartment of Rampura Rajpora, upper belt of Sopore. He said that soon after the fire broke out in the area, the teams from Fire and Emergency department, Forest department including Forest Protection Force are on the job to douse the flames. A five-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by an unknown vehicle at Damhal Hanjipora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an unknown vehicle hit a five year old girl identified as Zahira Jan, daughter of Mohammad Younis Shah at her native village in DK Marg, D H Pora. She was critically wounded and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The Supreme Court on Friday said it will not injunct media on carrying reports on Hindenburg report on Adani group till the court pronounces its order on constitution of a committee to examine the matter. Advocate M.L. Sharma mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. The Chief Justice told Sharma, "We are not going to issue any injunction to the media ever... We will pronounce orders shortly." For the first time, the Jammu Kashmir Police has added three cutting-edge weapon systems to its arsenal, including the made-in-India "Zen ShootEdge" corner shotgun, to bolster its ability to combat various security and counterterrorism challenges in the region, PTI reported. They have also included German MP-5 rifles and the Israeli-made Tavor X95 rifles. A 56-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Noorbagh locality of Sopore town in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday. Locals from a south Kashmir village Friday appealed to the police to expose and held those extortionists who looted cash and cell-phone from 5 persons while they were approaching the mosque to offer fajar (morning) prayers at the mosque. The incident as per villagers occurred in Trichal village on Thursday. The village is barely 3 kilometers away from the Pulwama district headquarters.
