Eleven cattle charred to death in Mendhar fire incident

Ten goats and a bull were charred to death in a mysterious fire in cattle shed overnight in Mendhar area of Poonch district. Officials said that the fire erupted in the cattle shed of one Naseem Begum wife of late Karamat Hussain Khan in Ward No. 05 in Panchayat Takia Kalaban area of the district around midnight. By the time the blaze was controlled, ten goats and a bull were charred alive. The investigation into the cause of the fire is being investigated, a police official said. The fire has meant that the “poor” widow has lost all her wealth and sources of income, the locals said and urged authorities to provide immediate compensation to her. GNS

The Wildlife Department on Thursday said it rescued a Barn Owl from the Ichkoot area of central Kashmir's Budgam district. Wildlife officials on Thursday said that local residents of Ichkoot area captured the Barn Owl on Wednesday evening after they found it roaming in the area. The locals contacted the wildlife officials who reached to the spot and rescued the owl after which the bird was taken to the Dachigam National Park in Srinagar. The barn owl is the most widely distributed species of owl in the world and one of the most widespread of all species of birds, being found almost everywhere except for the polar and desert regions, Asia north of the Himalayas, most of Indonesia, and some Pacific Islands.

Embankments of Asia's largest freshwater lake, Wular Lake in Suderkoot Payeen area in Bandipora district have turned into a garbage dump as all heaps of garbage and cow dung collected from nearby villages is being directly dumped there. Apart from impacting the environment, the garbage affects the lake ecosystem thus affecting fish breeding while the heaps of garbage in the lake have also added to woes of fishermen in the area. In an unfortunate incident, one of the Government teacher chopped off colleague's ear during a scuffle in Buchoo area of Pattan north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that a minor scuffle erupted between two teachers at the Government Middle School Buchoo during an enrollment drive, during which the duo engaged in a verbal brawl which turned into a physical fight. During this fight, one of the teacher identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed roughed up his colleague and chopped off his ear with his teeth. The Jammu Kashmir administration expects to get 150 crore rupees in revenue from property tax, and the money will go towards bolstering municipal bodies to give people better civic services, an official said.
