Kashmiri journalist Irfan Mehraj arrested in Srinagar, shifted to New Delhi

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Kashmiri journalist Irfan Mehraj in summer capital Srinagar. Quoting sources, Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com reported that freelance journalist Irfan Mehraj, a resident of Srinagar's Mehjoor Nagar was arrested in Srinagar by a special team of NIA from New Delhi. Official sources confirmed the arrest of the journalist for investigation by NIA in a militancy funding case case FIR no RC-37/2020 registered at NIA Delhi. Several agencies have, however, reported that Irfan has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the probe agency. A popular singer from Kashmir on Monday collapses while performing at Badamwari festival in Srinagar, following which he was hospitalized. The Special Investigation Unit of Kashmir Police is conducting searches at the Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday morning. Official sources said that searches are underway at Sethargund in Kakpora at the house of Abdul Aziz Dar son of Ghulam Mohammed Dar. Abdul Aziz is the father of LeT commander Reyaz Ahmad Dar, who has been active for 8 years and is believed to be one of the oldest surviving militants.
