The residents of Gadood Bagh and its adjacent areas in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar have been forced to reel under darkness since yesterday after authorities snapped electricity for objecting to installation of smart meters in the area. Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) they held a protest yesterday after authorities reached the area to install smart meters. They said however, after objection and protest by the people, electricity to their houses was snapped at around 02:00 PM. "Since then we have not received electricity. This is sheer highhandedness on part of the authorities," they said. Administration to ‘outsource’ 10 tourism properties including Srinagar’s Golf course

After setting up a panel for outsourcing tourism properties, the Jammu Kashmir Administration said it has so far identified 10 assets for which they have floated tenders. A top official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the administration has identified 10 properties of the tourism department for which they have floated out the tenders for their outsourcing. “As of now, the Request for Proposal (RFP) of only 10 tourism properties has been rolled out for outsourcing, and bids have been invited through a tendering process,” the official said. He informed that the tourism properties to be outsourced are almost equal from both Kashmir and Jammu provinces. Fire engulfs residential house in Srinagar area

A massive fire broke out in a residential house in the Indira Nagar area of Srinagar district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday morning, fire broke out in a two story residential house at Indira Nagar area. Immediately after the fire started, the fire tenders were rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control, they said. The fire damaged the first floor of the building, however, has been brought under control now, locals said. They said that nobody was injured during the incident and the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

JKDMA issues avalanche warning for Bandipora district

Jammu Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Monday issued a ‘low’ danger level avalanche warning over higher reaches of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district for the next 24 hours. The DMA, as per GNS said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche is likely to occur above 2400 meters above sea level in the district. People living in these areas have been in the meantime advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche-prone areas till further orders. (GNS)

Jammu Kashmir Police's Director General (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Friday said that weapons and narcotics are being air-dropped through drones in border villages of Jammu to revive and fuel militancy in the UT where “a peaceful atmosphere is prevailing at present.” Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a Jammu Marathon organized by the police, DGP Singh said that at present peace is prevailing in JK and militancy is at its lowest ebb. The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Monday said that the many works of smart city project will be completed by April 15 as round the clock work is going on. As Kashmir is all set to host G20 meeting in May, 2023, at summer capital Srinagar, the Div com said that the work on Smart City project is being carried out rapidly and people will have to bear till 15th of April till the work will be completed. A mother and her two daughters have gone missing from south Kashmir's Kulgam district of south Kashmir. The Jammu Kashmir Police has sought help from the general public to trace out three missing persons. As per a Police press release, three Kulgam residents identified as Roomi Akhtar, 30, wife of Abdul Salam Dar, and two minor daughters Muskaan aged 09, and Hadi aged 04 all residents of Cheyan Kulgam are missing from February 20, 2023. The missing report has been lodged at Police Station Devsar. LPG prices revised 59 times in last five years, Cost jumps to ₹1219 in Srinagar

Even as domestic LPG prices have been on the upsurge, burdening the common man, an interesting fact to note is that cooking gas rates have been revised an astounding 59 times in the last five years. The latest hike was made on March 01, when the prices of LPG cylinders reached 1219 rupees in Srinagar with a jump of 50 rupees from 1169 rupees. According to official data of the Petroleum Ministry, between April 1, 2017 and March 06, 2023 LPG prices rose by 45 per cent through 59 upward revisions in New Delhi. An LPG cylinder was priced at Rs 835 in February 2021, and by March 06, 2023, the cost gone upto rupees 1219 per cylinder. The same LPG cylinder was priced at Rs 834 in July 2021. By July 2022, it`s price surged 26 per cent to touch Rs 1,053.
