Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested two boys alleged of stalking, harassing and intimidating a girl in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. “On 4-03-2023, a girl was stalked and harassed by two boys, riding a scooty. The boys had made lewd gestures and comments against the girl. In line with the UGC guidelines and implementation of National Education Policy-2020, the University of Kashmir will be admitting students to Undergraduate programmes in its affiliated colleges on the basis of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the current academic session (2023). After taking a review of the impending admission process through CUET, Vice-Chancellor KU Prof Nilofer Khan said the detailed admission notification for various UG programmes will be available on the Kashmir University website from March 6, 2023. She said the CUET is being held by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to provide a single-window opportunity to students to seek admission in any of the universities across the country. Completing general court-martial proceedings in less than a year, an army court has recommended life imprisonment for a captain in connection with the killing of three men in a “staged” encounter in Amshipura in south Kashmir in July 2020, officials said on Sunday. Captain Bhoopendra Singh was subjected to court martial after a Court of Inquiry and Summary of Evidence found that troops had “exceeded” powers vested under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), they said. The Jammu Kashmir high court has directed the Pulwama deputy commissioner to administer the oath of office as a DDC member to PDP youth leader Waheed ur Rehman Parra, provided there are no legal restrictions envisaged under the Panchayati Raj Act. Parra could not take the oath after being elected as a district development council (DDC) member in December 2020 following his arrest in two terror-related cases. Staging protests, the family of a 25-year-old woman from Ganderbal district alleged the negligence of doctors at Kashmir's Premier Medical Institute SKIMS led to the death of the woman. The family members of Ulfat Jan (deceased), a resident of Wakoora area in Ganderbal said that Ulfat was admitted to the hospital with labour pain yesterday evening"Her condition was visibly deteriorating. We informed the doctors to check her, however, the doctors snapped at us constantly that she was fine. A 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with the weapon of a village defence committee (VDC) member at the Sindra area of Bhalla tehsil in Jammu Kashmir’s Doda district. Official sources said that on Sunday morning, a man identified as Arvind Kumar shot himself dead using the gun of his elder brother, who is a member of the Village Defense Committee, recently revived by the Central Government. Police said that Arvind had died on the spot. The body was immediately shifted to the Sub District Hospital in Bhaderwah for postmortem, and investigation in the incident is underway, Police said.

Man dead, another injured as two vehicles collide in Baramulla

A man died while another one was injured in an accident that took place in Sheeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a head on collision between two vehicles took place at Sheeri, resulting in injuries to two persons. He said soon after the incident injured were immediately rushed to a nearby health facility, however, one of them was declared dead on arrival.
