BSF officer allegedly commits suicide in Hiranagar

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Border Security Force (BSF) died of a bullet injury from his own service rifle at a forward post near the International Border in the Kathua district of Jammu Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. It was not immediately clear whether the 55-year-old ASI Sukhnandan Prasad, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, committed suicide or died after his rifle went off accidentally, the officials said. They said the deceased was on duty at Border Outpost Gurnam in the Hiranagar sector when his colleagues found him in an injured condition with a gunshot injury from his own service rifle. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility where he was declared brought dead, the officials said, adding police have started inquest proceedings. (Agencies)

Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl in Leh Division of Ladakh. Both Muslim and Buddhist organizations have condemned the gory incident and demanded strict punishment for the alleged rapist. After the Saudi government announced that a mahram is no longer needed to accompany a woman pilgrim, a first-of-its kind decision, more than 4300 women have applied for Hajj without mahram this year. According to Ministry of Minority Affairs as quoted by ANI, applications from approximately 4314 women have been received. The Ministry also stated that this is the highest number of applications received till date from women aged 45 and above. Unknown persons attacked a Sikh priest with a sharp-edged weapons and chopped off his leg in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, Police said. The priest identified as 32-year-old Sukhchain Singh was attacked last night in Khadoor Sahib town and the attackers managed to escape after the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmit Chohan said, as per news agency PTI. The Lucknow police have registered a case against AIMIM leader Uzma Parveen for offering namaz at the Metro station in Hussainganj. The matter came to light after the AIMIM leader posted a photograph on Twitter.
