Ranajit Guha, one of the pioneers of the history of the History of the subalterns passed away on Friday evening. Ranajit Guha (born 23 May 1923, in Siddhakati, Backergunje, was vastly influential in the Subaltern Studies group, and was the editor of several of the group's early anthologies. The main historiographical issues, addressed in Guha's work is the colonial appropriation of the Indian past and its representation as a “highly interesting portion of British history,” which together with the force of colonial conquest added up in Guha’s terminology to a colonial expropriation of Indian history. 70-year-old man dies after falling from slab of his house in Shopian

Meer Irfan A man died after falling from a slab in the Wachi area of South Kashmir’s Zainapora in Shopian district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that Mohammad Abdullah, 70, son of Abdul Jabbar, fell from the slab of his house on Saturday morning after which he was rushed to the nearby hospital. Mohammed Abdullah was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said. Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the matter.

The police have registered five FIRs at different police stations in Kanpur and Aligarh against more than hundreds of unidentified people for offering namaz on the roads on Friday (Alvida Namaz, April 21) and Eid-ul-Fitr (April 22), officials said. In Kanpur, the police have registered three FIRs against 1,700 people for offering prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on the road at Badi Eidgah, Benajhabar, Jajmau and Babupurwa. In Benajhabar, an FIR was lodged against 1,500 people. Similarly, FIR was lodged against 200 to 300 in Jajmau and 30 to 40 people in Babupurwa. Members of Eidgah managing committees are among the accused. A 15-year-old girl lost her life after she fell into a drain at Hirpora area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. ‘Tip of iceberg’: Human trafficking increased by nearly 16 per cent in J-K

The National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma on Thursday said human trafficking increased by 15.56 percent in Jammu Kashmir last year as compared to the 2021-22 financial year but it is “just the tip of an iceberg”. “In the last few years, we have seen in Kashmir also that women are getting targeted. The NCRB data shows that it has increased 15.56 per cent last year compared to 2021-22.
