Last year, Karnataka was marred by riots over the hijab after some students in rural Karnataka expressed concern over students wearing Hijab to the college. The Muslim students protested demanding that they should be allowed to wear Hijab to the classes. Later, the Karnataka High Court ruled that hijab and burqa are not required in educational institutions and the dress code of the educational institution is sufficient. Many female students protested in the streets wearing burqa and hijab. Tabassum also secured 100 out of 100 marks in Hindi, Psychology and Sociology.

Authorities disallow prayers at Jamia Masjid of Srinagar

The Jammu Kashmir administration disallowed Eid congregational prayers at the historical Jamia Masjid of Srinagar. Police and paramilitary vehicles reportedly reached the grand mosque on Saturday mornin to close its gates and disallow people to gather at the mosque. Earlier authorities had barred prayers at Eidgah of Anantnag and Srinagar, citing law and order apprehensions. Quoting sources local news agency GNS reported that the administration had suggested particular timing for Eid prayers at Jamia which was not agreed to by the management of the grand mosque. “As such Eid prayers will now be disallowed at Jamia tomorrow,” they said. Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, the managing body of the historic mosque, had announced that Eid-ul-Fitr prayer will be held at 9:00 a.m.

At least six tourists were injured in a road accident in the Pahalgam area of South Kashmir Anantnag district on Friday afternoon. An official told Kashmir Scroll that an accident took place at Pahalgam when the vehicle of tourists got rolled down. A day after five soldiers were killed and another injured in a militant attack, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited the spot here on Friday. According to the army, its vehicle caught fire while moving from Bhimber Gali to Sangiot in District Poonch after being ambushed by militants amid inclement weather in the area.
