Court summons BBC over documentary on PM Modi

A court in Delhi issued a summons to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) over a defamation suit filed by an NGO claiming that its documentary cast a slur on the reputation of India, its judiciary, and Modi. Besides BBC (UK), Justice Sachin Datta also issued notice to BBC (India) seeking its response to the suit filed by Gujarat-based NGO Justice for Trial. The plea said BBC (India) is the local operation office and BBC (UK) has released the documentary — “India: The Modi Question” — which has two episodes. Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the NGO, said the suit for defamation against the BBC is in relation to the documentary which has “defamed” India and the whole system including the judiciary. Minor girl killed in leopard attack in Uri

A 10-year-old was killed in a leopard attack in Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday afternoon, officials said. They told GNS that a leopard attacked the girl and left her grievously injured while she was grazing cattle at Zamboor Pattan in Uri. “The girl succumbed shortly after the attack”, the officials said. A Kashmiri journalist suffered critical wounds and may also lose his eyesight after he fell into an uncovered pit near Srinagar's city centre on Saturday. A bike rider died in a road accident in the Pantha Chowk area of Central Kashmir Srinagar district Srinagar on Monday. An official told the news agency— Kashmir Scroll that an accident took place in Zaffron Colony Pantha Chowk in which a truck bearing registration number JK01A 4711 hit and injured a biker rider. He said that the bike rider was shifted to the hospital for treatment where he succumbed to injuries.
