Proposed Army withdrawal from Jammu Kashmir put on indefinite halt

The planned phased withdrawal of the Army from certain areas of the Jammu region has been shelved "indefinitely" in view of terror attacks being orchestrated from across the border, officials said in Srinagar. They said the government had planned to reduce the footprints of Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency force of the Army, in the Jammu region and hand over the security to the Jammu Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces. The Army has three Counter-Insurgent Forces (CIF) in the Jammu region — Delta Force (which looks after the Doda region), Romeo Force (looking after Rajouri and Poonch areas) and Uniform Force (looking after Udhampur and Banihal areas). 7-year-old girl dies after falling in well in Pulwama

A minor girl died after she fell into a well in the Nikloora Litter area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday. An official told KNO that the girl identified as Fatima Jan (7) daughter of Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Nikloora fell into the well while playing near her residence on Wednesday. Soon after the incident she was rescued by her family members and shifted to a nearby hospital. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

A woman died after she was hit by a motorcyclist in Redwani Payeen area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday afternoon. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the accident took place near Redwani Payeen area of Qaimoh this afternoon when an unknown biker hit the woman identified as Hajera Banoo (45) wife of Khurshid Ahmad Khanday of Danav Bogund. He said that soon after the incident, the woman was shifted to PHC Qaimoh, however, she was declared dead on arrival. Northern Railway is set to commence work on the 50-kilometre Baramulla-Uri stretch in Kashmir, for which tenders have been issued. Once completed, this project will connect the border area of Uri to the railways. Northern Railways is considering starting the Final Location Survey for the new Baramulla-Uri line, and proposals are being invited by the Ministry. Tenders have been floated for Engineering survey work of a Railway line /roadway using modern survey techniques such as Aerial Survey and DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) levelling and creation of DEM. The overall track from Baramulla to Uri will be 50 km.
