Turks have started voting in one of the most consequential elections in modern Turkey’s 100-year history – an election that could unseat President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after 20 years in power, reported The Guardian. Opinion polls give Erdoğan’s main challenger, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who heads an alliance of six opposition parties, a slight lead, but if either of them fails to get more than 50% of the vote there will be a runoff election on 28 May. Weather department on Sunday forecast ‘mainly dry weather’ with ‘brief’ spell of rain and thunderstorms towards late afternoon/evening. “Today weather is likely to remain mainly dry in Jammu and Kashmir. A hideout has been unearthened near encounter site at Sagam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday, officials said. A top police officer told GNS that during firefight at encounter site, a hideout was also found by the security forces. Meer Irfan Intense hailstorm has wrecked havoc in dozens of villages in Kulgam and Shopian district of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Affected locals told The Kashmiriyat that an intense haik storm on Saturday caused immense damage to fields in the Herpora area of Shopian and Aharbal belt of Kulgam district in south Kashmir. They said that the hailstorm continued for nearly ten minutes And caused damage to paddy fields, maize crops, apple trees and almond orchards in the twin districts. "We are mostly dependent on these crops for our livelihood and constant hailstorms have damaged our crops," they said. They appealed to the administration to compensate for their losses.

A youth was on Saturday injured after he was stabbed allegedly by three persons in North Kashmir's Baramulla district. An official told the news agency—Kashmir Scroll that three persons allegedly thrashed and stabbed a youth with a car key in Gulshan Abad Baramulla. 25-year-old youth electrocuted to death in Srinagar

A labourer was electrocuted to death near S.P. college area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Saturday evening. According to officials, a 25-year-old labourer identified as Zubair Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh Mohammad Sheikh and a resident of Dudran, Boniyar in Baramulla, was electrocuted near S.P. College in Srinagar on Saturday evening. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. A motorist and his pillion rider were killed in a road accident in Mattan area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the scooty was hit by a vehicle near a grid station Hutmurah, resulting in spot death to the motorist, while his pillion rider was injured. He said that the injured was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he also succumbed to his injuries.
