Avalanche warning issued for four districts of Jammu Kashmir

Jammu Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Monday issued an avalanche alert over higher reaches in four districts for next 24 hours. The DMA said that a ‘low’ danger level avalanche is likely to occur above 3000 to 3500 metres above sea level over Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Baramulla districts. People living in these areas have been in the meantime advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders. (GNS)

Blast near Golden Temple in Punjab, second in last three days

An explosion occurred close to where a blast was reported on May 6 on a heritage street near the Golden Temple. No one was injured or any damage reported in today’s blast. The cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained, PTI reported quoting police. The explosion occurred near the same spot on the heritage street leading to the Golden Temple where the one on Saturday took place, the police said. The report quoting an eyewitness, said the explosion was reported around 6:30 am. Police and forensic teams reached the spot soon after and started collecting samples for investigation. Locals called for a thorough probe into the two explosions. One person was injured and glass facades of some buildings were damaged in Saturday’s blast. PTI

Sheikh Nadeem The Indian Army accompained with Police and Civil adminstration rescued 30 families stuck at Margan top, officials said. Admist heavy rainfall in kashmir and snowfall at higher reaches, the 19 Rashtriya Rifles Larnoo COB rescued locals who are stuck at higher reaches of Margan top alongwith the livestock. Army responded immediately with SDM and civil administration for the rescue Operation using snow chains on Army vehicles. ‘Stop import of apples costing below ₹50’: Government issues fresh order

The Government of India has issued a fresh order that prohibits the import of apples that cost lower than 50 rupees, reported Asia News International. (ANI) The import of Iranian apples during the last two years had hit the rates of Kashmiri apples. The decreasing prices of the apples cost Kashmiri farmers immensely, many even changed their apple orchards for non agricultural purposes. In this fresh order the central government has prohibited the import of apples where the CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) import price is less than or equal to Rs 50 per kilogram. The import policy remains "Free" for those apples costing above Rs 50 per kilogram. Youth found dead under mysterious conditions in south Kashmir area

Suhail Dar A youth found was dead under mysterious circumstances in the Hassasnpora Tavela area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday afternoon locals found a dead body mysteriously lying in a paddy field in the area after which they informed the Police. The Police in a swift action recovered the body and took it into their possession before taking it to the hospital for the legal and medical formalities. The youth has been identified as Amir Rashid Ganai son of Abdul Rashid Ganai, a resident of Hassanpora Tawella, he said. Weather to improve ‘significantly’ in Jammu Kashmir from May 09: MeT

Rains continued to lash Jammu Kashmir even as the weather department forecast more precipitation in the next 24 hours before “significant” improvement from May 9. “Today is going to be rainy, cloudy, and cold in J&K. A significant improvement is very likely from May 9,” a meteorological department official said. He said while “mainly clear weather” was expected on May 9 but rain/thunderstorm in the late afternoon or evening can’t be ruled out at some places.” From May 10-15, he said the weather was expected to be “mainly dry” along with a rise in temperature, with warmer days ahead, he said. The MeT department reiterated advisory to farmers to postpone spraying of orchards and harvesting of crops till May 8.

Danishwar Hameed Untimely snowfall has caused damage to apple orchards and maize cultivation in various upper reaches of the Kashmir valley including in parts of south Kashmir. Locals from the Gulzarabad, and Chiranbal areas of Damhal Hanjipora said that snowfall has led to intense damage to the apple orchards in these areas. "We are solely dependent on the apple orchards for our livelihood. An autorickshaw driver died in a road accident at Vehil area of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Sunday evening. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an accident took place at village Vehil Shopian as an autorickshaw turned turtle when its driver tried to save a dog on the road. In the incident, an autorickshaw driver identified as Sanan Ahmad Mir, son of Nisar Ahmed resident of Hanjipora Shopian received critical injuries, who succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.
